Huh. I just realised that the centre planet in my previous X-game was also Murdoch...

Took a few minutes to (finally) change the names of nearly every star.

Then the survey operation for the third city shard completed. It is located in Capnip. That is doable, but...

A decision must be made now. Do I go for more cities (which will require more territory) or take my fleet and head for the AI homeworlds?

well, you can already place 5 or 6 full cities on the planets you got, if you place them wisely. I'd say that's enough. You got enough room already to win through the alternate victory, unless you really want to kick the homeworlds yourself.

Me? Wrong? Never! I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken...

Unfortunately my cities are on Yard and Murdoch.

Your best remaining city spots are Fall, Orcish, Brian, Aular, Ubic, and Arran.  That gets you to 8.  After all those are in, and you are ready to pick a fight add the final 2 cities at Yuntin and Xiji.  10 Total Cities, 24 Spire Shipyards is 3 dreadnaughts, 6 Battleships.  For the final chapter you have 3 major defense points at Xiji, Yuntin & Arran, with fallback defense positions at Murdoch and Yoda.

You also have the option to take everything on the Arran wing and defend at 2 points.

Geez. Thats a LOT of territory to take. Having to clear all the systems next door to the cities so that I can get to the next shard makes it just that much worse.

Leaning towards just taking out the AI right now.

You can most certainly do that, but just be aware at this point the AI is "expecting" that and will have a nasty surprise waiting for you if you try it.

Yea, it won't go lying down, but you could likely win at this stage, yea.  Not much gets in the way of a capital fleet, as long as you time it around the exos.  On the higher difficulties it could get dicier.
