Really basic question I should already know

How do you build scout ships?  :-[

It's been quite a while since I played (damn you AVWW!!).  I'm playing a vanilla campaign, and I can't find them anywhere!

Scouts are build from a Space Dock, Scout Starships are built from a Starship constructor thingy.

Space docks, left-most option are fleet scouts. Right-most on the starship ones, IIRC.

OK, that's what I thought.  Um, what if they're not there?  I'm also not seeing a lot of things that I was expecting to see.  Turrets, for example.  I'm on the latest beta, btw.

You build turrets from the space station.
... and then we'll have cake.

Did you disable cloaking ships?

It used to be that would disable scouts aswell, that was raised as a concern a while back and I'm not sure if anything was changed.

D.

edit: I just checked, you have all the ship types disabled under the Ship Types tab at game creation. Gray is disabled, Yellow enabled for those buttons.

That sounds like what I did.  Should that also disable all turrets and shields?

It's very likely that it does. I know for a fact that there's a setting that disables forcefields (shields) and fortresses. Think it's called something with "Heavy Defenses" or similar.

Disable:
Heavy defenses

Play against:
Shield ninny

Prepare for the game of your life* (hint: be aggressive)

*Game of your life implying that you don't die to quickly, which would happen against most other ai types.

Anything I suggest can be put on mantis by anyone else.

Heck, claim it as your own unique idea.

For I never will.
