No consciousness shard graphic or mission success
« on: May 08, 2012, 11:48:25 PM »
I've uninstalled/reinstalled AVWW, then manually updated the game.  Unfortunately not only are the consciousness shard just ugly pink boxes but the game no longer records my mission success.

On a related note, is there a way I can download a stand-alone version of this game even if I've downloaded it via Steam?

I believe so yes. You can just download it via the website. Your Steam key SHOULD work with that copy.

Yep, it will!

In terms of Steam itself, you'll want to Verify Steam Cache and then simply download the latest beta updates through there and all should be well if you wish.  Unless you're on OSX, sometimes the verification of the cache doesn't work terribly well there.

Yeah... the Steam Mac client is not as reliable in my experience.  The verification of the steam cache doesn't always get all the files actually downloaded if it missed some.  You can delete I think some .vdf files in the steam common folder with the name "avww" in them, and that might help.  Otherwise if you copy out your world folders and settings.dat and inputbindings.dat files (just to be safe), and then install the demo from our site into the same folder that steam was using, that would also fix it.
