It was actually just a test game, where I chose Raiders for my bonus ship type.  They seem so underwhelming that I decided if I'm going to take on that threat, I've got to have something more useful.

Therefore I'm restarting with a better bonus ship type, and hopefully some luck.

Raiders would be okay (compared to other ship types) if you were playing very low AIP (and so few planets and low energy), especially if Trader is off so a Z-Gen is unlikely.  Otherwise they are very forgettable.
