Just a note about what's going on with AVWW.
« on: September 07, 2012, 04:14:27 PM »
I can't share details yet, but within the next couple of weeks I should be able to.  We're working on something much bigger for the game than "just" the complete art revamp, as it turns out.  This is something I've been thinking about for a while, but couldn't figure out how to work out.  Now we've figured it out, and we're working on a lengthy design doc to make sure all our ducks are in a row so that we can hit the ground running on implementation with this.

Anyway, I know this is cryptic and largely unhelpful, but I just wanted you to know that there is an enormous amount going on with the game at the moment.  I'm going to stop doing the weekly spells at the moment, and largely the other bugs that have been reported lately are really slight.  So we're throwing ourselves mainly into this new stuff for the moment when it comes to this game, while also of course working on AI War and Shattered Haven.

I think everyone here will be pleased with what we're working on, it's just not quite the time to reveal it yet!

Your [company] working on three games at once. Do you guys get any sleep at all? o_O.

But very cool to hear, can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve :)

Well, Ancient Shadows is well in the open now, at least!

For this new thing for AVWW we want to be sure and announce it right, though.  I'm not really trying to announce it here, but I also didn't want people going "where's my spell this week, and why is this so dead at the moment?"  I keep getting caught between my desire to be communicative and my don't-touch-that-hot-burner sense about things coming out too early after what happened last year. ;)

Ah! Awesome stuff to look forward to then, is the hope.  I was wondering where you've been, but, silence rarely means you just don't exist and aren't working and don't care. I'm thinking an actual emergency would have been announced as soon as it happened. Otherwise, silence means work, thinking, observation... and the more silent days in a row, the greater the buildup for the next update.

...I'm also with Isaac. How do you guys get any sleep working on three games at once? That's incredible.

We're taking kind of a rotational work schedule on the projects, heh.  And honestly it's a matter of balancing which ones are most in dire need at once, and trying to orient things around that.  It's definitely a little crazy, but I think it's working out well so far!

Looking forward to what you all are working on when you have a chance to say.  :)  You guys are wonderful!  LOVE what you've done with AI War and AVWW and the new Shattered Haven.  :)  Pretty soon I won't have any money left!  Just kidding, keep them coming and I'll keep supporting y'all.  :)

Ahh, of course, so it's not like there's just a "team" of one person on each thing or something crazy... with you naturally putting yourself on two projects. The rotational thing makes sense, both in how AI War seemed to be developing (Immediate update if there's a big new feature or change people are excited about, or if there's a critical bug fix) and in that it's rational to not kill yourselves against a brick wall of workload all at once.

The only thing that could make this better is a Tidalis expansion/sequel!  8)

An entire gameplay revamp besides just the art revamp? Now this is interesting.

I never got into AVWW properly, because the whole game just felt like it was a shoehorned mess of many things, from different incompatible gameplay systems mashed together and the whole inconsistent art style that was mostly fueled with stock images from all over the world. It just didn't click, the whole thing was like trying to put a cube through the triangle slot.

But an art revamp means that the game will have a consistency in terms of the visuals, so thats a big step forward. I'm really curious to see what the gameplay overhaul will be like. This may just as well win me over to play AVWW again.

Unfortunately, this isn't likely.
