In this case they are.

In terms of time they are the most cost effective unit by far for this game though.

I can't afford the time to go back to my homeworld for reinforcements after every system I take.

Yes, throwing away ship caps worth of Mk I units like this it wasteful of resources but with how out of wack this game is, it's the best strategy I've found so far.

probably won't help you now, but I think to best custom unit for this would be the neinzul commando since it's so fast and cheap to build and ideal for killing defenses.

Good point, Neinzul units of any sort seem tailor made for this.

I'd love to, but I doubt my schedule is going to let me hook up with you guys.

I'm only really available Monday and Tuesday evenings, Wed/Thur/Fri/Sat are right out and Sundays are iffy.

My schedule will open up next summer, going to start looking at getting multiplayer games in then.
