AI War Beta 3.710 Released
« on: October 12, 2010, 10:00:02 PM »
Original: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2010/10/ai-war-beta-3710-released.html

Copied:

Second release in one day!  This release has a ton of good stuff.  There are a bunch more performance improvements (and tools for gauging your performance), the force fields have been updated and look awesome, more of the context menu is now in place, and the rest of the new "niche images" to tell the various ships-with-same-far-zoom-icons apart from one another where needed.

Also, the hybrids and some of the other similar new ships won't be 20x too large and dangerous any longer, which we're sure will be a hit. ;)

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 3.701 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time. If you don't have 3.701 or later, you can download that here.

now that is odd o.0 attempting to run updater made the screen go black. Probably related to the updater issue i posted on mantis. oh well, full reinstall cant hurt

And yeah, hybrid fixes are good - I actually cant find anything at fault in this update  :P looks to be mostly behind the scenes fixes, and mainly that forcefield change, which looks rather nice.

Of note, you mentioned the neinzul spawner has its production stuff scaled.. you did at one point fix it doing 250k damage at 50k range?

Ya, I've gotten around to starting a game with Blitz combat style and Normal ship caps (98 for Mk I) this game feels fast.

Which is a good thing as that was the intention of those changes as I understand them.

And the AI really needs it's tachyon beams back. (I know they are on the way) 10 Mk I scouts + Auto-Explore = totally scouted map within a couple minutes.

so... I can't actually get the update because the screen goes black. and the auto updater tool just does its thing, yet when it restarts, it still says 3.707.

as far as I can figure, the game wont update at all. Wouldve went with a higher priority, but I figured its not that horrible.

yeah, cuz the updater is the least important part of beta testing. /sarcasm

this is a great time to update the manual installer and release the music along with the update.

Added "Remember Modes" item to the special-move context menu, which prevents it from re-initializing the group-mode, formation-mode, and stance toggles from the currently selected ships when re-opening the menu.

I'm very glad you made this addition to the context menu :D Keep up the good work :)

Thanks -- RCIX already put that one in the bug tracker, and I just found it. I'll be releasing 3.711 within 30 minutes.

Alright, I went from 3.1.??? to 3.709 then today's update before I played again.

WHY is the game like this, its nearly impossible to get a co-op game setup.
Before we had no issues while using hamachi, now we can connect as me as the host but we can't launch the game.
There is no ready check for the host and the game won't let me start the game until I click ready.

I'm using Windows 7 64bit and my buddy uses Windows Vista 64bit.

Since we couldn't start a game I cheated starting a game.
I started a single player game and managed players to add my buddy a slot.
Then 1 minute into the game the AI unloaded 500 ships into my home planet and we lost. Yay.

I miss playing ai war now.

Hey Fox, this is an early beta. It's expected to have severe issues. If you really want to _PLAY_ then I suggest using the older 3.189 version. That one works.

As for multiplayer, still haven't managed to get any games going.

Bear in mind this is a beta: we advise that you keep your other versions around for regular play, but we appreciate feedback on the new betas as we're working on.  The angst is not appreciated, though.

Notes:

1. It's clearly stated in the release notes that the multiplayer lobby is not yet functional.

2. The insta-death thing is a transient bug.  This is a beta.
