When will you purchase AVWW?

Vampyre:
Well, for me, and I know my answer might be weird, I plan to buy it at release... As I planned to buy every AI War extensions at release... But I still bought them during the betas ;-) So, playing with words here : I plan, but if I feel like I will play it, I might change the moment I will buy it actually...

For the moment, I'm quite mixed due to certain reasons... I don't like much the graphics, but hey, that's not a critic, that's just my own tastes... I had the same problem with AI War until... well... until I played it ;-)

I'm almost sure it will be the same with AVWW... I will for sure download the demo first, and there, have a game... When I shut it down, if 20 minutes elapsed, well, I should play more to be sure I won't miss something... If hours have elapsed, well, I buy it straight away :p

Plus, you have one really good argument for me : you're running on the Mac OS X natively (hate multi-boot), and only this could make me buying it !

(yet another comment full of unuseful information ;-) )

Ozymandiaz:
Asap :)

Orelius:
I often tend to twitch-buy and get games that I end up not liking at all.  AI War was pretty much a twitch-buy (after being introduced to the game by reddit), but in this case, the twitch-buy ended up being a very good choice.  I'm much more wary now of getting things that I potentially may not want at all, really.

I'm a big fan of arcengames, but, of course, I'm probably going to wait a while before getting AVWW to look for reactions, etc.

I'm waiting and seeing until we see a gameplay video

x4000:
One other thing to bear in mind is that the actual gameplay and "what the game is about" will become way more clear as we get closer to beta.  There should be some previews from major press hitting right about then, it looks like, and we'll be doing more informative videos that are actually like a true trailer, as well as gameplay-footage type trailers.  And I'm sure we'll be doing gameplay diary type writeups, too, to help communicate the way the game flows.

The reason we aren't focusing more on that stuff now, which has left a number of people feeling like our descriptions of the gameplay are vague?  We have a lot of elements that we are building in, and many are already in place, but it's not yet gelled into what I would really call a true gameplay experience.  This is not atypical in any way, it's just not something most game companies would show you, either.  For the first part of any large project you're building subsystem after subsystem, and gradually compiling them all together, and then at some point suddenly you have an actual game and the overall flow makes a lot more sense.

Anyway, that gelling process is going to be taking place throughout June, hopefully, and then we'll be working on pre-beta content and polish in July, such that there should be a solid month of time where you can look at a pretty gelled game that is a lot clearer what it is before beta even comes around. :)
