This had better be good, Ender's Game is too awesome a book to be made into a bad movie. Harrison Ford would be good as Graff, though, so looks like there's a chance.

Gavin Hood ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine") is directing from his own script, adapted from Orson Scott Card's novel.

Yipe!  That's all I have to say about that.

And I love Ford... but casting him as Graff is definitely changing the nature of the character.  And you know what?  I think I'm okay with that.  Despite how much I love the book (it is my favorite book), I hope they do change around quite a bit of stuff for the film.  The problem with book-to-movie adaptations is that books and movies are good at different things.  When you stay too literal to the book, all you get is "moving illustrations that sort of follow the book," which is another word for "bad movie."  If they must make a movie of stuff I already love in book form, they might as well go about it in such a way that it's a good or great movie.

I can probably count the number of times that has happened on one hand, though.  My hopes != high.

X:Men Wolverine is actually one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Even with a very talented director and excellent cast, I think it would be extremely hard to make a decent adaptation of such an epic and wonderful book.  With Gavin Hood as the director, I'm not even going to waste my time, and ruin the wonderful memories I have of the books.

The problem with movies is that they visualize and solidify characters that we've already created in our minds.  If the movie's portrayal of the characters don't do them justice, it will extremely hard to forget the new image.
