I think the mp cost may be a bit high, especially when they only last 1.5 seconds. I haven't played around with them much yet, mainly because I've been in low level areas where I don't need them, so maybe the 50 mp cost is alright.
What do other people think about the mana cost?

If your intent is to spam it and negate all damage, then yeah, the MP cost is going to hurt. As a 'use once in a while' to get out of a tricky situation I don't think it's terrible. That being said, a lower MP cost would not hurt or overpower it.
My first thought when I used it was that I wouldn't mind seeing a lower damage threshold before it 'breaks' and just eliminate the timer all together, but I think that also falls under the consideration of whether you're trying to use it as a blanket vs. a quick defense.

Well, Chris did say that there will be more shields later, some that are 'permanent' until they adsorb X damage.
The thing on the mp cost I think is that it will drain my mp a lot faster trying to use it and my offensive spells in a big battle. Already with the stat changes, I run out of mana fairly quickly in large boss battles just using offensive spells.
