GoG.com "network service charge" ?
« on: December 08, 2011, 09:24:44 PM »
My google skills have entirely failed to turn up anything on this, but the last two games I got from GoG each resulted in two debits on my account, one for the actual list price of the game, and another right after it for a "network service charge".  The extra charge was apparently 2 cents per game, so I'm not really up in arms about it, but it seems really mysterious to me: nowhere can I find a mention that this was going to be charged, nor have charges like that shown up from previous GoG purchases.

Anyway, has anyone else seen this or heard anything about it?  Mostly I'm just curious, with a small side of wondering if someone's running some kind of sophisticated penny-skimming scam ;)

Hmm, maybe I'm just being really dense and this is something from the payment processor and/or bank, instead of GoG?

The last couple times I did it, I got charged from my bank because they considered it an international transaction. Maybe it's something similar? I plan to use paypal next time and see if that avoids the extra stuff.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks :)

For a bit there I thought the "network" part indicated that GoG was recouping their download costs or something like that.  But I suspected that couldn't be right when googling didn't reveal an internet dungstorm.

Never gotten that from GoG (And I have bought a few things recently) so like was said, something with your bank could be the case. Long ago I had an account at Bank of America (Horrible decision, I know) and they did something similar for certain charges.

Yea, my wife had a BoA account years ago.  That was terminated with extreme prejudice, and everything we've heard about them since then has only confirmed that we made the right move.

My bank's actually really quite good to us so I'm a bit surprised to see those charges.  Anyway, not a big deal, glad to know what was taking away my pennies :)

Yeah, ditto. Glad I jumped that ship. I left when some money I deposited never made it to my account and they claimed to never have received it in the first place.

I use PayPal, and my August purchase on my account statement shows the exact price to the penny.
