Space Planes, if an ememy fighter pops its head in a system they are in, half of them seem to die of fright!

The delinquency of the scout starship has been duly noted.

Scout starships have two uses.  I'll list the cons first.

1) A team of 6 Scout Is can go further than a team of Scout Starship IIs.
2) For the price, I can spam Scout Is much deeper than than I can place Scout SS IIs.
3) Scout SS IIs cost K, Scout Is don't.

Pros:
1) Scout 1's block sniper shots.  I'm still K Positive
2) Scout 1's are easier to grab for a convoy who needs scouts.  Still K positive.
3) Scout IVs are wicked stupid expensive but available from the opening if I deperately need to see into a corner.

Scout starships are not powerful enough unless playing against a sniper AI to have any value, and even then 5 ScoutSS Is with the fleetball is enough.
... and then we'll have cake.

I have discovered the use of scout starships for the very first time in my current game. I don't think they're meant to send out solo. Combine a bunch of scout mk II and III's with some mk I and II scout starships and you can get quite a bit deeper inside enemy territory. 3-4 hops even in my current 7/7 120 planet map game. It took me about 9 hours before I could reach an Advanced Factory, so using the scout starships really worked in my benefit.

Oh god yes. I had space planes once because I thought hey these look cool.

They basically deal no damage whatsoever. That is to say, their damage per shot is so low it just gets eaten by any armor. (See, armor can be useful.)

Not the worst ship ever, but it would be nice if nenzul starships increase in build rate with mark.

It takes so long to build MK II units in deep space, anything higher would seem impractical.
Anything I suggest can be put on mantis by anyone else.

Heck, claim it as your own unique idea.

For I never will.

Yeah, you basically need to drag along Engi IIIs with them.  I consider them basically a kit purchase if I want to use them.

I love using Enclave starships, eng IIIs, and younglings. Reminds me of battle scenes from BSG or Stargate Atlantis.  :)

I currently have a game with claws, shredders, and cutlasses.

The claws are by far the weakest link. They are too brittle, costly, and few.

Vampire claws - they haven't been upgraded in-step with cutlasses.

I think I'm actually going to go with the scout starship for having a tachyon beam that is too short. Please consider Extendz'ing that ship.

Scout Starship has already been buffed for the next patch:

Now that it has been brought up though, tacheyon drones could use a range buff. Now scout starships are superior or equal to them in every way. I would guess doubling their range.
