Totally understand the business decision and can't argue with what you say here.  I also don't mean to say that SC was overly buggy on release--it wasn't at all.  I just mean it wasn't feature complete, as they say, because you added some pretty big features the past couple weeks.  I am grateful you added those features as you could have just put them in the expansion and charged me for them.

A fascinating post Chris, especially for someone interested in the business side of indie games.  Back when Valley 1 was cutting its teeth I worried that its relative failure might mean that we had seen the last big "opera" from Arcen, i.e. that you were going to start making cheap games that were low risk and quick to develop.  I find your new business and pricing  model intriguing, and I am willing to pay for the big opera games in bits and pieces instead of all at once if that helps the company.  That said, I did think SC was a tiny bit rushed (the alpha was what a couple weeks?) and that some of the features you've implemented in the past 2 weeks should have been there for 1.0.  I'm all for the new pricing model, in other words, but I don't want that model to mean that you're rushing things out the door before they are fully ready.  Skyward 1.0 was great, don't get me wrong, but if you'd have waited another three or so weeks then 1.10 could have been 1.0 and it would have been that much better.  Random maps, for example, were a huge addition that can really make or break the replay value of a game like Skyward when people are talking about it on other forums.

I've put about 130 hours into Diablo 3 and its biggest flaw by far is itemization.  Once you hit level 60 and play through inferno a couple times, you just stop getting useful items altogether at a certain point, and this is exacerbated even more if you use the Auction house.  They are going to fix the itemization in a future patch so that there are better gear drops and hence more incentive to play, but they said at E3 that they won't be fixing it until much later in 2013 or even 2014.  Torchlight 2, by contrast, has much better itemization but the combat is not quite as good.  That said, Torchlight 2 is awesome and the "synergies" mod makes it even better once you've played it through the vanilla version once.  Highly recommended.  Torchlight also has more content and much better randomization than Diablo.  Also, if anyone here plays Diablo feel free to add Castruccio #1723. 

EDIT:  Also, since someone has to say it: Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 are not real RPGs!

It definitely has not been altered, but I do need to make an update so that it can be adjusted.

Though I wonder if perhaps it isn't properly framerate-independent, and if your framerate is thus affecting scrolling speed.  That shouldn't be the case, but you never know I guess.  Anyway, I do need to put in that scroll speed slider either way.

Definitely not framerate on my end but I would love a scroll speed slider.  It's my #1 request by far.

If you like old school stuff, I cannot recommend the Eschalon series highly enough.  The first two are already out and a third is coming later this year.

When I get to turn 50 and I can see that the game is lost, it would be helpful to have a "surrender" option in the menu so that I could add a loss to my profile without having to end turn until the game actually ends.   What do others think of this?  As it stands, my win loss count is not accurate because I don't want to continue the game once I've lost it so I just start a new one without finishing the old one.  With a surrender option, I could just take the loss on the chin and carry on.

is it just me or is the woe where the level 4 ice giants drop  a little over powered.  The giants are level 4 and they dropped around turn 40.

Should jewelry have it's own display in the resource sidebar on the right?  Most of the other secondary resources do, but jewelry is missing from the bar for some reason (perhaps this was deliberate?).

If the new AI War expansion has no key, does that mean it won't be downloadable in a demo/pay to fully unlock form from the Arcen website like the rest of AI War?

Be that as it may, I find myself reaching the score goal and then hitting "end turn" until turn 90.  I don't want one faction to destroy the other once I have reached the score goal, so I just run a minimal game from that point until the end.  I guess I determine "how well" I won by  whether I reach the score goal, and not by the final number itself.

Maybe there should be some incentives to achieve scores higher than the score goal, i.e. when I get score X I get to do something really cool (use a rare ability or place a very rare type of building).
