Ah, I see the text now.

It's hidden in the info panel for structures - anything with a "captured on planet ownership change" flag. This usually applies to most structures that are not guard posts, or explicitly designed for the AI like Eyes and Troop Accelerators.
and Interplanetary Munitions Boosters unfortunately. 20 AIP is a lot. :(

Is there an easy way to tell what entities are capturable?

My homeworld has two adjacent planets. I took the normal planet which has 4 other adjacent planets. Now I guess I'll go after the Mk4. I've turreted the Mk4 wormhole (probably inadequately but...). Is there anything should I bring with me besides my whole fleet? I have a couple bomber SS and a Flagship. Should I leave the bombers at home for defense?

For the Mk3 with Mk3 Ion, I guess I should build up some SS to take that out first?

AI War Strategy Discussion / How to handle early hi-Mk enemy planets?

What's the best way to handle a Mk4 AI planet that is adjacent to your home world? I gather that I need to do something about it relatively quickly, before it gets too many reinforcements. However, I'm not sure the best way to handle it without getting a lot of Mk4 ships heading back to my home world.

Just for fun, there's a Mk3 adjacent to the Mk4 which also has a Mk3 Ion Cannon on it. I'm sure that will be fun, too. :)

Doing procedural usable 3d graphics is a lot harder than 2d ones... sadly ;/
It might not be too bad if you could keep the terrain etc 2D and make the actors 3D. That way you could animate/reskin fairly easily, and keep the procedural stuff as is.

Do you have any logs in your "Runtime data" folder? Also, does anything happen if you actually try going into a game?

To be totally honest, since I've not yet heard any reports like this at all, I'm thinking it's possible that your install got corrupted somehow. You may need to try re-installing the game.
The second screen shot was from "in-game".

I uninstalled and tried the 1.0 installer. It seems to work fine so I guess something must have gone awry when updating.

However, when I ran the game directly from the installer, the dialog box at startup prompting for a key did not have text labels on the buttons below. When I quit and re-ran the game, they looked fine.

The previous version I tried (the one where the GPU load slider was added I think?) worked fine. The version I upgraded to this morning gives me a totally black screen except for the menus. I tried launching it both from Steam (which is where I got these screenshots) and straight from the command line. I wanted to see if anyone here had seen this before I open a ticket. Also, what information would be helpful for debugging this?

AI War Strategy Discussion / Vampire defense

Vampires have become a super nuisance in my game. They are knocking out reactors leaving me in a huge energy debt, and also taking out the occasional command post. Of course losing all of my force fields is not good either. :/ What are some good defense strategies against them?

Short answer: yes, that's one of our major foci for this week and next.
Excellent, I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll have time to keep up with the next few releases.

One question, is it or will it be possible to change the size of the cursor? I find myself losing it occasionally during frantic fights

I fired up 571 yesterday. This is first release I've played in a few weeks, and to be honest I haven't been able to keep up with all of the release notes so please forgive me if I'm retreading ground already covered. Overall, I had fun and I'm impressed how the game has matured in the past few weeks. However, I still feel kind of "lost" when I play. There are missions, and they're kind of explained by the pop-up text, but I don't have a good feel for which missions are important, or what I should be doing in general. Should I be exploring "generic" map spaces? What should I be looking for? Should I be building up my settlement? What is a general way to go about that?

I guess what I'm saying is that I know I'm up against an overlord and I know that "time" is a factor now, but I don't get a good sense of how I'm supposed to accomplish my goal. I had fun playing, but after exploring for a while and doing a couple missions, I felt kind of lost and without purpose. Are there plans to add more "structure" or direction to the game?

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / Skipped tutorial, missing starting resources?

I created a new world with the 571 beta. This time, I thought I'd skip the tutorial. However, I didn't start with any platforms or vitality stones. I seem to recall getting those in the tutorial in previous betas. Is this an oversight or intentional?

Do you have 'complex' ship types enabled? That could be it. Also, you don't necessarily need infiltrators. Autocannon Minipods, Gatlings or any other inflated-cap ship should do the trick.
That was it. I now have a "loss factory" going. :) Can't wait to get my piece of coal! :)

edit - blah, a stupid coupon instead.

Do you have to do something special to start with Infiltrators? I've generated a bunch of maps, and have yet to see them as the ship type. Do they show up as something else?
