AI War Technical Support / Re: [Solved] Reinstalling AI WAR: 2.0

Freaking solved it.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Download the windows installer cleanup utility and use it to remove all traces of AI War from the installer side of things.

I re-downloaded 2.0 and it installed without a hitch, no more Zedgraph messages and I didn't need to hunt down the old non-existent installer I used when I first bought AI War.

I need the installer for version 1.0.04

:| That's the only way I know to fix this.

I wonder if I can find it anywhere.

Ok I let the files extract, then copied and pasted them all, finnished the installer after the error and put them all back so they'd stay there.

Now it would let me uninstall since I have the MSI. Except it's the wrong version. I'm stuck without using the version I had originally that caused this problem. *Face palm*

Wait wait, I got it to unpack. my window just wasn't updating to let me know. I had to exit/come back to the folder.

But it's still not able to use the msi that extracts. :|

Yeah I thought that too, except it's not working.

The .msi never extracts back to that location, even when I run the installer, it says unpacking and what not but I don't see any trace of the files and the repair/uninstall in add/remove still can't find it.

Necromancing my old problem.

I pretty much figured out why I'm getting the ZedGraph error: The insallers looking for something that's not there, maybe searching the wrong path.

In my Add/Remove programs AI War is still shown on the list, but I get errors when I try to remove it and when i try to repair it I get the "can't find Msi at C:\Documents and Settings\Anthony Thomas\Application Data\Arcen Games, LLC\AI War\install\" error.

How can I remove the old traces of AI War form my PC and registry?

I just installed it from Impulse however, which worked for me.

The 2.0 installer keeps giving me this error:

"The file 'ZedGraph.dll' cannot be installed becuase the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'PCW_CAB_Family'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package."

The only other instance I found of this error on the forums was here: http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,649.msg10768.html#msg10768

However I don't have the game on this PC anymore, and I'm trying to do a fresh install.

Yeah having a third side to interact with could bring in some fun and intresting situations/choices.

Like maybe major Zinth planets have star bases that contain something like an advanced energy core that gives off a lot of power. When destroyed the core would remain in-tact due to a force field.

Now we have a fun little ball in play that can do a couple things. If you attack the energy core and kill it you get a massive explosion, if the AI captures the core and returns it to a home planet they get a progress boost, if the player opts to capture it they can integrate it into a facility to boost production speed or resource rates. The AI could play off the Zinth as a growth source, the human could play off them as an ally, a resource, or a weapon.

Just one idea of how the three sides could interact.

Works for me

The tool tip of number of planets still says you can choose between 40-120. I tried a 10 planet game for kicks and was swarmed and killed by the AI within 15 seconds. :x

AI was only set to like 4 too, since I was just testing it.

This is going to sound a bit random, but how difficult would it be to add spectators?

Spectators that would work like this, that is:

With the way the game is now, single games can go on for hours if not days. What if within the direct IP connection you had a toggle to "join as spectator" which would allow people to join games that are already in play in order to chat or watch with those playing it? The benefits of such a feature are many for groups interested in playing coop together.

AI tends to be there for human replacement(Most RTS's), or in the case of AI War- the actual point of the game. The game revolves around beating the AI- which plays like a totally different race.

An idea that popped into my head is a third side in the war, the game already hints at alien technology so what if there was a possible third AI in the game representing an alien species of some kind. It would play a different kind of game that effects both the player and the AI, it could be added as a way to introduce a missing factor to the game: Diplomacy.

AI allies would be wonderful since getting a game together can be rough.

Dunno how difficult it would be though, I imagine at this point it may be a hefty undertaking.

Maybe if allied CPU didn't work quiet the same as players do it'd be easier, like how the enemy AI have their own set of rules.

I was just curious if you've thought about what you want to do with the planed expansion.

I see how much content you've been adding in just regular updates and I can't help but wonder what kind you're planing to drop on a large scale update like that.
