Cargo Commander uses WASD and mouse for shooting and it works really well.

2
I thought the mouse attack controls worked very well in the original game and the tab targeting also helped I just can't seem to get my head around the current control scheme so as it stands I guess it's not the game for me.

3
I would really like the option to use the mouse to aim as in the original game.

I'm so used to using W,A,S and D as movement keys that I just get confused and this is worse in a battle situation. I will play around with key binds and see if I can come up with something to make it easier.

I suspect others may also find this difficult as W,A,S and D is the most popular layout for movement keys in games. I can't think of any games that use the cursor keys.

Apart from these control issues I'm enjoying the game but it's much harder that the first one or maybe I just need more practice :-)

5
How does the aiming up and down work? I'm finding I have to press the attack and direction keys at the same time which is super tricky?

6
How are other alpha testers finding the controls? I'm having real difficulty as they are so different from the original game. It feels that it is more suited to a game pad and I don't currently have one.

Would be interested to see what others think.

Okay thanks for the replies hope you got my PM okay.

Please don't mention the dreaded eagles I avoid all areas with eagles like the plague.

9
How will the people accepted for the alpha find out?

Great to hear it's not been dumbed down. Really excited to see what it becomes waiting with baited breath for more news.

I really hope the game isn't been dumbed down and any arcade mode would certainly spoil the experience for me.

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / Feedback from the version 1.2
« on: July 14, 2012, 03:15:53 AM »
I started a brand new game for the release of 1.2 and on the whole it's a real improvement to the earlier releases. I love the procedural spells although the not working in the day is pretty annoying I wasted an epic orb and got that negative and it's hard to know when I can and can't use this spell.

The biggest bottleneck I found was getting hold of wind shelter scrolls and these are a really important part of the game especially if the RNG is been unkind with the layout of the continent. I found myself grinding for conciousness shards so I could get them from the store.

The overland missions giving spells is great for the first level or two but then I can craft better spells so I no longer need to do the missions. I think from level 3 onwards I didn't do any overland missions. Although I did do lots of secret missions hoping for wind shelters and early on farms.

The changes to enchants I feel have taken things the wrong way I now find myself throwing most of the enchants I receive as they never seem to improve on what I'm using and my current enchants are from quite early on in the continent. Please bring back the old system.

Finally I have now reached the point where I need to reduce the overlords level using despatch missions he is now level 10 and I have 3 of my 4 npc's I lost one to reduce him from 11 to 10!!! This stage of the game is a real grind and revolves around buying gifts for the NPC's as they don't seem to spawn in any stash rooms I visit. This is on district level I would hate to have to do this on any higher level.

Despite all these issues I really feel the game is heading in the right direction and it certainly has a more enjoyable flow. I hope some of my comments help and now I'll go and continue trying to take down the overlord.

Thanks for reading.

You've got a point there Bob. But then again, the secret missions are partly rewards for exploring, but they are quite easy to find since they show up so readily. So hummm...and yet I've never come a cross a single "rescue someone from another time period" mission ever. That's great! I'm stuck with ice age people.

Me too I beginning to think these kinds of missions don't exist in my world.

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / Re: Citybuilding, and placement

A mission to clear the first chunk of the area of any enemies should be required at the very least before the building can be built.

I like most of the new sounds but I really miss the old item pickup noise.

Edit: After further play time, I think I highly dislike the new sound. It's just such a dull weak little pop noise. Every item I pick up I miss the old clunk sort of noise that really fit the action of 'getting a thing'. The new sound doesn't even make sense. I used to slice through whole forests just to pick up every thing I could. Now I find myself actively avoiding picking things up just because that noise makes me cringe.

I also prefer the old sound for pick ups.
