A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / [RESOLVED] Crash - Black Screen
« on: April 22, 2012, 12:52:12 PM »
Hi,

I had AVWW version 0.902 or so I believe, it's been a while since I updated really, and today, seeing that the game comes neer to 1.0 I just did the update, the game found one update and after the short (which was weird to me) update, the game only show a black screen, you can see the menu and hear the music but everything else is black.

Also, after uninstalling and re-installing (coming back to version .5) and doing the one update the game find find, the same happens :(

Any help ?

Wow, amazing update again ! I'm so impressed in 4 little release the game has changed so much for the best graphically speaking :) thanks a lot ! I wish you the best for 1.0 when things gets real and when critics (stupid?) will come !

Amazing job, I'd like to thank the entire team myself once :)

Off Topic / Diggers, a game forgotten ?
« on: March 14, 2012, 02:18:14 PM »
Hi all,

Just wanted to ask if anybody remember that wonderful game that was diggers ? And it's successor diggers extractors ?

That game was really a jewel and nobody ever made a game that was half as good as diggers :(
Sadly, everybody forgot it ! On www.mashu.org someone is trying to remake the first one but since it's not the only thing he does, the project hardly ever move forward :(

I wished some developers would take the concept again and develop it ! With different races maybe and as a strategy game with 2 teams (which are already there in the original ) and the goal would be to destroy the enemy base... A spell system with rpg elements could also work very well for this type of game ... Sadly we never saw anything like that... There was an attempt to create diggles but even that game with its old 3d was badly optimized and not too enjoyable in its mechanics... I don't know, the idea of digging a mine and building elevators and ladders etc... It's just a fantastic idea ! Many game tried like motherload but they were so far from the original concept of diggers :( that Xbox game though seemed amazing but I don't have a Xbox :/

Anyway, anybody knows if there games like that around ?

I really wish some developers would take back this old and very fun concept and would remake it :)

Arcen ? Anyone ? Lol
Ya, no, I know, not going to happen !

Off Topic / Re: Fallen Enchantress beta?
« on: March 13, 2012, 10:49:14 PM »
A bit old but I'm in the beta of fallen enchantress and also sins of a solar empire rebellion.

Well, rebellion is totally badass I every way, it's SOASE but much better !

FE ? Can't really say the same, the beta is practically unplayable right now because it keeps crashing every so many turns ! Never saw a game crashing so much... But the devs know it and will fix it.
As far as the game it's way better than war of magic and they really made a huge progress, it's more like master of magic now. I complain a lot about the magic system, tactical battles and research in general but a couple should be fixed by the release ! The new system is cool and not cool IMHO, so many things I hate and yet so many I love ! Though the devs are really attentive to players but don't dream too much, it's far from arcen games :( I'll see what it will be by beta 3 in April but I don't know... The different spells are still blah to me :( and earth magic is a total failure ! Armor / creating mountains and leveling terrain ... Blah thats so pathetic when it could totally modify the battle field with cool stuffs.

In FE you don't research spells anymore, you have to gain them through adventure and I hate it, you just can't stay in your city fortifying and researching until you are ready to rock ! They really force you to go out of your way which is good and not good at the same time IMHO .

So much to complain about but hey, where month away from release date so hopefully it will go well ! But I can tell that they are going on the right track and working hard, just check the main page with the main forum topics, it's pretty awesome :)

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / Re: What was he doing ?
« on: March 10, 2012, 12:00:10 PM »
Oh okay, makes sense now ! It's less creepy than I thought ! Less funny too ! Though it could have been hilarious !

Came accross a couple bugs lately that made me laugh like the flying tank pursuing me... That would be scary if it would happen IRL !

Edit: Oh ya, 40 people in a bathroom is rather creepy ! lol
Though there's oftenly more than one toilet in a bathroom next to each other, maybe they had to go at the same time ? What is a bit more embarassing is that there's no wall between those toilets !

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / What was he doing ?
« on: March 10, 2012, 11:53:09 AM »
Okay, lately I'm going in every houses I can and most the time, I find cousciousness shards in the bathrooms...

So, what was the previous person doing in the bathroom with consciousness shards ? I have chills just to think about it !

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / Re: AVWW Beta 0.586 "Sheer Cliffs" Released!
« on: February 29, 2012, 08:33:48 AM »
First of all, thank you for working so late on this update, except some text that have words that repeat themselves (seen for the wooden box in planning window) I think it's totally great !

The new stuffs helps the player a lot more but now I find myself lacking of a lot of wooden box :( I got stuck a couple times because of the lack of them and because we can't use the wooden platform :(
I think in outside areas when there's land above you there should be a cave to be able to place platforms :( and that the pirates shouldnt be able to touch you when there's a land above your head !

I saw for the first time a whale and the carp and I have to admit that it's pretty freaky at first sight ! Lol
Hope to see more interesting stuff about underwater adventure coming !
And especially a water suit allowing you to swim rather than sink at the bottom :(

Anyway, great great updates you all made here ! Thanks a lot !

Edit: about all those duplicates that I have too, I think there should be a shop with a way to sell those for resources ! A secret shop or a npc that would wander and that we would meet a bit randomly to sell our stuff ! That npc could be a monster who just want those king of stuff and doesn't agree with the invasion ? There's always a rebel somewhere, isn't it ?

X4000, it was the same for me, building and "un building" computers was one of my hobby as a kid too :)

My motherboard fried a couple years ago in the middle of a LAN party :/ I was so annoyed ! Lol
And just the same, well, my drives were IDE and my computer kept seeing them as SATA actually ... Weird enough, I went to buy new IDE cables and everything worked wonder after that... I never really quite understood why :/

Though, it's at that time that I decided that computer was an inexact science !!! With lots of randomness !

My ram fried too one day and my computer kept giving random errors, I formatted a couple times, reinstalled everything,... Did it again and each time I was rebooting I had a different error ! I was so frustrated before I understood that my ram was the problem ! Lol

I've never had any course in computers whatsoever to learn, I just learned by myself and by doing mistakes, learned a lot but what a huge loss of time :/ lol

R.I.P. to your motherboard :(

I hate when it happens to me :( its the worst joke ever !

But a huge thanks for the update :)

Also, glad to hear this about the tutorial :) I just remember lots of poeple leaving games behind because they were too complicated ... Well, the best example I think is X3 ... Blah to that game ! Can't figure out anything except basic fighting.

Well, I'm doing a lot of work with the tutorial and the new player experience, I'm pretty sure I can do a better job than X3. :)

ROFLOL !!!

Well, personally I think you already did better than x3 as it is right now :)

In x they don't tell you anything at all ... You are in space... You're in a ship... There are stuff around you ! Good luck player ! Oh and if you look, there's a totally labyrinthic menu where you won't understand anything because it's way complicated and don't count on us to take time to explain even 1/10 of it ! Good luck !

Never played evochron, hesitated though but the graphism are stopping me !
I'm still a big free lancer fan though ! Which is by far, the best space sim I ever played to !
Sad they never expanded it with more stuff like building a station and so on like in x3 but with the simplicity of freelancer !

Thanks a lot for the vsync advice, I'll definitely try it :) I didn't know what it was !
I think my Gpu should handle it well.

I'm glad to hear about the npc change :) but I always look at the kind of npc there is and there never is the one with the skill I need :( same for guardian powers, I pay attention to a lot of details.
But it still appear as a problem... I'm in a hurry to see the new update coming, thank you so much !!!

Edit : by the way, the new battlefield is really great !!!! Thanks !

For the vertical line, it happens when I run with the lightning power (double tap the movement key I mean) accross a screen, it doesnt happen in buildings, only in exteriors.
Doesn't happen on the map either.
It happens when you go a couple screen across and run and jump as fast as you can.
I tried to take a screenshot of it but it happens so quickly that I don't have time.
The line pass across the screen as if it was trying to refresh the graphics but the character is too fast for the frame rate. Thats what I believe anyway.

For npc, I have already a large number of guardian powers but I can't really use any because none of my npc have the required skills :( I need certain skills level 1 to build a structure I be able to build another one that would level the npc. I dont know if you've encountered that kind of problem yet, I was think that when you get a new npc, you can chose which skill he should train into rather than setting his default skill ? I don't know if you like that idea ?

Ya, right now, I keep unlocking guardian powers and doing missions, I get a lot of new npc but they always have skills I dont need. 90% of them have aquaurgy and I have 2 with stone binding and another one with technology I think... So I cannot build any of the basic buildings. I could take screenshots if that would help ?

For the tutorial, I was just thinking to some messages that would pop up after some action on the first continent, like after defeating the first evil outpost showing something like : you should continue to do so and then go defeat the overlord... Not something too fancy, just indications about what to do exactly until the first overlord is defeated maybe ? Just an idea.
Giving new players a couple advices on how to play and what to do here and there and what they should look forward doing as a general direction. That would just tell them, okay if you want to move forward, right now you're doing the right thing.

Anyway, thanks x4000 :)

Game runs smoothly but sometimes I have that "transparent" line running across the screen when I travel here and there, nothing really dramatic but it makes me feel like the game will crash sometimes.
I think it's a frame rate issue when the character goes too fast ?!

As for the tutorial, it would really need to be extensive and guide the player until the end of the first continent.

I still can't use any of the guardian powers because I always lack of the citizen with the required skill :( I keep saving them but I think they mainly have all aquaurgy 1... And 2 with stone binding 1.
Is it a normal ?

Thanks :)

I would say you should promote the story and a couple of the thing you can do like crafting and the fact that you can really influence the world.

One thing that most poeple search is to get enough for their money, that's my main concern when buying a game ! You pay 60 bucks for a game you finish in 8 hours or less... Seriously ? Ya there's maybe a multi to make it longer but it's not like promoting an unreal tournament game! And 60 bucks for 8hours or less is truly a rip off that makes me way angry :(
So, I'd definitely advise open huge world ever extending with great replay value.
With it, multiplayer possibilities up to so many players.
I think just those two are great marketing lines especially for the price you pay, most players nowadays get ripped off for price / quantity and they're angry about it ! I can tell for sure.

A sentence that always appeal me is : unravel the mysteries of the world.
I don't know if it will be the case here but it looks like it wil be. It just gives an idea that you can pass the story line or just search intensively for details hat will tell you more, you will have an objective to start searching for clues about what is happening and where it all comes from.

An indie game that truly amazed me in every way but was poorly advertised was Aquaria, this game was gorgeous, enchanting music, interesting story line... That game was a pure delight from start to finish ! But it never got the success it really deserved :(
I really hope AVWW will get all the success it deserves !

Okay, I think the points that attracted me the most, without writing an details are :

-beautiful 2d render world
-gameplay old school renewed on each continent (new game / advancement )
-crafting spells and items: loads of spells and leveling them.
-inventories and enchantment
-cities management
-development of your civilization
-extensive and massive ever changing world (and expanding)
-combination of sci-fi and fantasy universe
-free roam and explore the world for materials and bonuses or accomplish diverse missions to improve the life of your citizen
-strategic elements and management/planning
-so many different enemies and environments
-role playing elements
-craft and change the world
-high replay value thanks to randomized worlds
-character customization
-easy to play with a learning curve as the world "progress"

I also would like to add deep storyline and background informations on the world... Though we don't have much yet.

And there's so many great little things here and there that would deserve to be said but that are probably insignificant from a marketing point of vue.

The greatest is certainly the world'size that give that feeling that it will never end and that we can play forever... A bit like games like the elder scrolls.

I don't know if it helps like this but there's so much to say !
