AI War / Re: Poll: Worst Unit Of The (time interval) Award (XI)

I see Microfighters got no votes. I have yet to find a good use for them. Can someone post maybe one or two examples where they come in handy ?

I didnt say they take on homeworlds by themselves. I said it messes up the early and midgame.

Back then the discussion focused mostly around the teuthida and strategic reserves. Now, considering you altered the teuthida and the fact that it needed alteration spawned from me posting it (noone else posted about it being mostly imbalanced at that point)  you might consider taking a look at the gatlings (at the very least) too. I think its rather obvious (insane range, dps, rof, they can repel most waves on their own w/ grav turrets or kiting and can raid like a king. 400k dmg ?)
it was from here

im rather certain if you dont alter their stats in the near future, you will alter them in the not so distant future because the issue WILL come up. Its just the question of wether its the dysons that the get the nerfstick or if the whole of AS asks for a rework in my eyes.
thanks for your time.

I made a thread or post about it some weeks ago, about new years eve. Basicly, it comes down to the fact () that all the things you can get as nebula rewards are largely imbalanced with the way AI war is played and is not balanced. Like where its "hard" to defend yourself early on or attack early on, just getting 13 dyson gattlings makes every battle a piece of cake until mid/late.
So to say, most stuff added by AS is not balanced with the the other expansions at all.
Id rather play with AS / nebulas disabled, because its really that bad if you know how the game played our before AS.

I dont see a nerf to Dyson Gatlings. Will the whole AS thingy get a different patch ?

Hum. I dont mean to sound rude, but i think a small balancing patch is kinda overdue. I know its all about AVWW 2 now, but a quick fix of the most obvious inbalances of AS shouldnt really take that long ?
please ? I would like to start a new game, been holding back on that since early january.

The biggest issue with Ancient Shadows will be the selection of Brutal Guard Posts on AI Homeworlds.  At your difficulty level there should be only one so you won't get the problems that 2-3 brutal picks can cause, but they can still be pretty daunting to a first timer.  This means you'd wouldn't have the option of a champion, but honestly I'd skip having a champion in your first game.

Im not necesarrly advising to disable AS because of the champion or brutal picks. Its more like a huge general unbalance. I dont know if the nebulas are static, i.e. you always have the same nebula reward in a row, but my homeworld gave me 13 dyson gatlings which are largely overpowered. When the early game was a "struggle" without AS, it became VERY easy to both raid, full attack and defend versus waves alone on the fact of a douzen dyson gatlings. They have huge range, huge alpha and a very good rate of fire. They definitly break the balance at AI progress <60.

I would advice to not play with with Fallen Spire and not with Ancient Shadows.

No, i was more referring to the problem with strategic reserves and the fact that certain homeworld picks seem to be vastly overpowered. In addition, the imbalances that emerge once you mix the balanced base game with ancient shadows in general and of course the new ships introduced in AS.
Like, maybe you can read 10 minutes in this thread of mine, if you havent already. It gives youa pretty good scope of what several players, including good ones, find lacking.

Hum so when will Arcen be back from vacation so we can expect fixed for the "obvious" balancing issues at hand ?

I tried and i give up up so many tries. I hope it gets fixed because i still feel certain things are vastly imbalanced. Maybe i try again once Arcen made a patch (or two).
12 hours of my live mostly wasted -_-

Nontheless, thanks a lot for your time Hearteater.

Hm. Thanks Hearteater.
I know my systems defense is messed up in that save. I have another one around 10 minutes later with system defense consolidated and some more warp gates killed.

I appreciate your help. I have one question though and that is about the use of pause. I normally would consider "pause" as cheating, in that i dont want to pause/unpause ten times just to get the micro right. I feel like it doesnt suit with what AIW is trying to do at all. I suppose there is no way to get the HW without pausing ? If so, thats kinda akward. I always try to play AIW like i would play other MP RTS games, which would mean live micro. hum-hum.
thanks a lot for your time !

Hearteater, would you be able to waste 10 minutes of your time with my save game ? Attached in post 18.
Disregard the incoming wave, just focus on the homeworld (top right).
Please. thank you.

I realize that i have too many open wormholes and a lot of knowledge spent. But Area Minefields can be constructed quickly and so far i was able to repel all warpattacks without my fleet.

Just like i said earlier, i feel like AS is not balanced at all, like it did not receive the proper beta-ing.
There either arent enough players providing feedback with this 4th expansion or they simply dont care ? Regardless, this subforum is awfully quiet, i cant remember a time when there were so few posts over several days.

Off the top of my head, the following things are either complete broken or largely OP.
- Dyson Gatling
- Railcluster
- Teuthida (i feel)

In addition, i have the strong impression that most of the AS nebula quests didnt receive proper testing. Especially the one with the 600m hp golem ship comes to mind.
the whole concept of AS messed up AIW pretty bad. The early game is so much easier considering you get dyson gatlings (insta-pwn) and the champion. If you play with AS, the entire ai wave construction should be altered.

Here is the save.
For the galaxy map, look at the top right border. There i have my outpost w/ all kinds of gates, my fleet and the homeworld im referring to.
