AI War / Library/Encyclopedia of Units
« on: September 16, 2009, 01:57:10 PM »
Hey,

This would require a huge effort, be entirely superficial, and it could involve some more story telling, which I understand not everyone is okay with:

How about having an encyclopedia of all the ships (and buildings) in the game? Like an easily accessible journal of all the ships in the game. It would have all the details of the units available from the tooltip, plus a phrase or two of strategies, just to give the newbies an idea, plus that page from the wiki with its efficiency against the certain ships. And maybe like a short backstory of the unit, to give every ship a little more personality?

Or, if you want to add lore to the game, list each ship's size, height, cost to build and date enlisted in the fleet, etc. PLUS, what I'd really really love, would be a zoomed in picture (or animation) of the ship in question. For example the ship's picture would be the same size as a reactor mk III for example, with all the detail that that would bring. And beside the detailed picture you would have the default ship and the icon for comparison.

Now I realize that this is a huge undertaking, but I can see it being an addition that comes with the premium expansion or something similar. It would add enough levels of polish to make the game stand out from all the other RTSs even more than it has already. And then it will have it so we are one step closer to having high res ships/ really really close zoom functionality in the game.

Thanks

AI War Technical Support / [Solved] Game won't start. Unhandled Error
« on: September 06, 2009, 01:04:00 PM »
Hey,

Just trying to get the game to run on my buddy's computer, XP. I linked the Error Report.

I installed it using the 1.012 Demo that I used a week back or so, then used the same 1.202D .Rar that I did to get the game patched up to date.

Thanks
 Tankor Smash

Update: Just reinstalled it, w/o patching it, it works now, going to try the 1.0to1201 patch then the other one instead of skipping the 1.0to1201 patch

Okay, the problem was just the skipping of the 1.00to1.201 patch that was cause all of the problems. I got it all sorted out now, sorry to make all that fuss.

On another note, my pal is on the third walkthrough and having a good time, here's hoping to have another player.

AI War / Newsletter / Facebook Page
« on: September 05, 2009, 02:04:55 PM »
Hey,

Why not put out a regular news letter detailing what you are doing for those who do not frequent the forums? The contents could be juicy details about the expansion/2.0, sales figures, what you ate for dinner last night, just anything to have a way for players to recieve information without having to search through the forums.

Also, if you made it so there was some sort of option somewhere in the main menu, you could have it so people initially sign themselves up, and should they lose interest after a month or two, they get the newsletter listing all the cool new features. And they could easily forward the newsletter to a friend should they see the need. >:)

Thanks

Off Topic / Ahh yeah, off topic.

Well, now that we have this, we can abuse it entirely =D What to do, what to do?

Heh, well I was wondering what peoples gaming backgrounds were around here, because everyone seems so well mannered compared to some of the other forums around the tubes.

I started gaming with the SNES and played all the usual games, Super Mario, Kirby all that stuff. Kept it real with the n64 and started playing GoldenEye and Perfect Dark as well as Starcraft 64. The former I kept steady with all the way today with all the popular console games such as the Halo games, but especially Halo 2, the latter led me to PC gaming and RTS, where I played SC, WC and Diablo II. Then to others like Rise of Nations and all that kind of stuff. Then a few years back I got introduced to Space Sims/4X games and have been pretty happy with them, always keeping them on my HDD in the offchance I'd pick em up.

On the MMO front, I've tried WoW twice, but couldn't do it, because I felt like I HAD to be playing in order to make it worth my while. I dabbled in ROSE Online Beta, and that was fun, picked up my buddy's Guild Wars account about 6 years ago, and couldn't keep playing. One MMO I really like is EVE. I haven't played it in a few months, but I paid for 8 months- the longest I've ever been subscribed to any MMO. Second runner up is Phantasy Star Universe. Only because I didn't realize that the 12.99 or what ever is automattically charged every month without my say so, so from January to last month I played maybe two hours in January, but have been paying for it since.

Anyways, that's enough text for now, I'm off to play the Nexus demo. Hopefully people will come a-flocking and post their own stuff here in our resident Off-topic category.

AI War Technical Support / [Solved] WI Installer Package
« on: September 05, 2009, 01:06:24 AM »
Hey,

Due to my current internet configuration I don't have an active internet connection, so I use this laptop along with a USB drive for downloading demos and such. So anyways, that means I couldn't download any of the packages from my desktop. So that means I'm playing the game without the WI package that I was supposed to download. Is that important? So far, I haven't had any issues at all.

Thanks,

AI War / Seeing the level of planets.
« on: September 03, 2009, 12:44:30 PM »
Hey,

Very quick newb question here, what's the way so show what level planet the enemy planet is? I think I must have missed something somewhere, because I can no longer see the I, II, III, IV beside enemy planets. I get them scouted with the default Mark II scout and it just shows the total of the enemy ships. The display is set on Normal (N). Sorry for the question  :-[

AI War / PC Gamer Blog
« on: September 02, 2009, 09:39:21 AM »
Hey,

If Arcen Games is still looking for a good way to market it game, why not approach the guys over at PC Gamer Blog, and see if they will write up one of these or these? Pretty much what it is is a writer for the website or whatever goes and plays a game, then writes about it indepth as it happens, adding some humour here and there, and then posts it once a day.

The ones I linked to are two for the game Galactic Civilization II, made by Stardock. Now that's a TBS/4X but I really think that it would do wonders for the popularity of the game. If this isn't something you are interested in ding, just go read them for fun, they are long, but really funny to read, especially if you've play GalCiv2.

AI War / Another bug, -maybe-
« on: September 01, 2009, 10:16:39 AM »
Alright, I don't want to become the guy who always thinks something is wrong, but hey, I'll go until I'm told to stop!

With the some of the lastest patches, the logic for the pathing has been changed so the ships don't all funnel into one pixel worth of space and then slowly find their spot outward in a circular pattern right?

Well it seems that if you just right click on an enemy ship the movement reverts to what it used to be. So when you right click an enemy ship to attack, all you ships go to the one pixel of space where the enemy is then fan out once they get there, kind of like how it was on 1.09.

Not sure if this is really a bug at all, but I guess I can try to help any little bit.

AI War Technical Support / [Solved] Impulse Archive error
« on: September 01, 2009, 02:34:02 AM »
Alright, hey guys, I'm new to these forums!

Anyways, I've got two computers, a XP desktop and a Vista laptop. ATM I don't have any internet connection of my own on account of the fact I recently moved in. Now I happen to be able to connect via a neighbors wireless connection which allows me to post here with my wireless laptop, but my desktop (which is the PC I use for gaming) is currently not connected to the internet at all. This causes a problem that I can't actually download AI War.

But no matter, I downloaded the demo (before buying it an hour later) on my laptop, then used a USB to move it over from my laptop to my desktop. Once I purchased the game, I used the serial that I aquired off of Impulse on my laptop via View Registration for my desktop. Then I realized that I have the 1.09 version on my PC and that the newest version is the 1.013. So, being all clever-like I made an archive of the 1.013 game from my laptop then transferred it to my PC and tried restoring it from there.

This is where the problem is, it seems to start trying to restore the archive, but then moments later the message comes up: something along the lines of unable to restore this archive. No error code or anything.

Now I realize the solution may very well be just to uninstall the 1.09 program, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks alot for the help, I'll clarify anything if the need arises, take care. Also, I'll be around for 20 minutes or so, but then I'm going to go to sleep, it's 3:33a here, so I'll reply in the morning 10 hours from now.
