AI War / Unusual Spire Alien Refugees Spawn

I did the start of the spire campaign, but the alien refugee survey point was my home world, and the aliens spawned there. Consequently it was a very easy retrieval.

I only had 1 system at the time, but I guess this is not normal behavior?

(I forgot my mantis password, and decided to type this here while I still remembered it, sorry)

It has been ages since I went to the cinema, not for a lack of desire to go there, but for a lack of movies to capture my interests.

So I am wondering, has there been any actually good movies latly? I might not have paied enough attention to catch the good ones and only had a streak of bad luck when going over the 'now playing' lists.

Off Topic / New PC Monitor

With my new Asus laptop arriving in a few days, I have decided I might as well get a nice big monotor, type 24".

But I am torn in what kind of monitor I want. Perferably I want 1920 x 1200 (with high contrast and 2ms) resolution, but seem most montoris only got 1920 x 1080, so my quest got longer. ;)

Any experince with some decent monitors?

I am not too familiar with J Blow (only played Braid without reading up on or around it), but he does have some good points about the intent about certain games.

Off Topic / Gaming Laptop

I am considering replacing my old Dell MPX 1520 laptop with a new one. Its getting a bit worn, and needs constant external cooling to function without overheating. I also want more power.

However, I have been out of the loop in the market for a while. So my start point is a ASUS G73SW 17.3".

Any experiences or recommendations?

AI War Strategy Discussion / Killing 1200 MK V ships with MK II ships

In my recent game I am at a cross roads. Either I abandon my siege on one of the home systems in favor of getting more ADR, knowledge and a Mk IV fac, or I pull some cool trick and kill 1200 MK V ships (from a zenith descendant AI) and take the border world to the AI home planet (and netting more knowledge that way for more MK III ships). All the 1200 ships are at the WH in a huge AI blob.

I do however have MK III bombers, and Missile Frigs.

I can have access to a hive golem and a bot net golem... at 60 AIP... so I dunno if thats really worth it.


So, what trick would you guys use? my 1500 fleet is not that strong (500 of that is Infiltrators MK I and II). I think it is looking dark, even using transports to ferry my fleet some way off will only buy some slight time before I need to rebuild it :)

Off Topic / Mice Removal

So apparently some mice has found their way into my old appartment (I am renting in the bottom of a bigger house) now that its winter and cold outside.

I have chought a few with some generic traps, but it seems there are more then 1 or 2 alas...

I am trying a new "bucket trap" today since the old standard metal spring traps are kinda messy and decapitates the small mice i got.

But... I want them gone for good, and i can not get a cat. Any ideas?

After Unity I ahve not been able to find out how to store my templates. Is the templats even in the game anymore (and how do I use it?)? :)

(I have not been able to follow absolutly all the changes, alas... :P )

AI War / Some unbalances with Astro trains?

Some unbalances with Astro trains?

I did not catch quite what was killing my Turret Astro Train MK II, but something made it go pop very very quick. Granted, I had a ~600 unit fleet, but mostly Mk I and II units. It went down realtivly slow to start with, then some unit suddenly got in range and boom, 70% to 0% in a few seconds. I do not have the save here now, but the units I used was Fighter MK I and II, Bomber Mk I and II, Armor booster MK I, cruiser MK I, Leech starship (and a select few captured units like 2 or 3 sentinel frigs MK I and IV, and a couple of laser gatlings and some other small stuff like eye bots and space planes.)

I am in need of some horror/zombie/survival game for the PC.

As a reference I like l4d(+2), but I want a single player game that is relatively slow paced, or pace controlled by me. 3D is not important, but gameplay is.

Anyone know of any? :)

AI War / AI war in steam vs non steam

Have anyone noticed any significant differences between the two versions? Is there any differences except the steam GUI overlay?

I just recently tried a game with two Neinzul AIs, and the new minor factions. As well as Hybrids (+Advanced) on on of the AIs.

The AI in itself is as expected, but the Hybribs like attacking me. Luckily I managed to find an efficient defence from them with a few Beam turrets + grav turrets. Also forts :).

The Perservation warden howwever, presents another challenge. They spawn all the time, and a lot of them (must be at least 10 of them at any given time if not more, I do not have total scout covarage of all the planets teh waves come from), and keep bombarding my worlds constantly. Luckil my main defence with the beams and gravs shread em to pieces, but on my outlying colonies demands more attention constantly.

Currently I use a detatchment of Zenith Beam frigates to deal with em, the AOE beams work well in that respect, but I would also like to have my beam frigates with my main fleet on occation.

So I am wonderng what tactics you use to deal with these waves? (one grav turrets and a few tractors gets shredded instntly by tem as well btw ^^).

AI War / MK II Science labs "raiding" a planet

I was building a Cmd at a new planet, while at the same time I had some Mk II lab on auto gather knowledge.

Right as I started building the Cmd, the labs moved in (and btw, I think maybe the labs should wait until I actually own the planet? :) ).

Then some cloaked mini pods killed my Cmd and I never actually got the planet, yet I gathered 300 knowledge form it as my labs where destroyed. I saw the number over them as they went pop.

AI War / Units not attacking Viral Clusters

I started a new game, with the Viral Enthusiast, but my units are not automatically attacking the Viral Clusters when they are close by, even if its the only unit there that belongs to the AI.

They do kill it if I tell them to specifically, but not on they own, they just sit there and get shot ;)

AI War / Harvester Mk II stopped building

Ok, so I decided to try the Mk II harvesters to see what yield they would give me compared to the knowledge cost.

I got a 120 planet map and a few planets.

I decided to scrap all my old harvesters to make way for the new ones.

However, they suddenly stopped building, despite me still having some income (I already built a few of em).

See attached save. Planets on the left have been making the harvesters that have just stopped building.
