A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / Re: only ice age

I decided to just pay CS9000 for the wind shelter, so as to have some variety in exploration and gems available.  Thanks.

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / only ice age
« on: September 04, 2012, 12:45:15 AM »
Playing the game again now that it's on steam.

So, I only see Ice Age areas within my non-stormy area.  Will I eventually be able to expand this, or do I have to go to a particular terrain type / timezone while it's stormy to unlock stuff?

I was able to build a farm, from a mission reward I think.  Hopefully nobody starves this time.  At least they won't keep eating and sleeping afterwards anymore.

Also, should I just be giving gifts (cups, profession books) to my people whenever I can?

AVVW and AI War are now the first games in my steam list alphabetically.  Conspiracy?

one of the many ways Magic Online went downhill was the closing of the public bug tracker (bugzilla).  (it's gotten better in many ways too)

Also the Mantis here is not "public", registration = private.

what would you call it then?  I'd assume "private" means developer-only or internal, and "public" is what Arcen has.  Perhaps "anarchic" for unregistered, but in truth there isn't much difference.  If people want to troll/spam the Mantis I'm pretty sure they can.

I'm actually startled to hear you're 30, x4000.  I had thought 35-40, not sure why.

So, do you need to poke Valve again as they've dozed off and forgotten?  I think it's been 6 weeks now.

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / secret missions
« on: May 01, 2012, 05:36:38 PM »
I've found occasional secret mission rooms, but they say no mission available.  Do I need to do something in particular first?  I haven't played a whole lot since release, civ level still 1 (looking for some spell upgrades before doing too many missions, and stubbornly upgrading characters and killing them off in ghost-filled boss rooms).

the tooltips on inventory items and in options are both quite good.  I'd wager you never have lines like
Code: [Select]
i++;   // increment i in your code either.

It's been forever since I played AVVW (0.520-0.530?) - wanted it to get more polished/stable, and not burn myself out on it too early.  But as release approaches, I'm watching the site more (and updating my copy, partly to have an excuse to hear the music).  I think this version will get me to play some, as better gamepad and mousewheel support is a huge plus - I never did find a control scheme with any input method in the past that didn't feel awkward in one way or another.  Thanks for all your hard work, and I hope this is a successful release.

(I made AVVW a Christmas gift for a bunch of friends too, didn't expect the release to be this delayed.  oh well, can't win 'em all)

Q: is it intentional that your platforms block spells but preplaced ones do not?

That seems a bit weird, having the "tree" based on crafting ingredient number rather than what ever the spell does. rather that logic would place, hypothetically, ruby and cedar on the same tier as ruby and magma, despite one being considerably harder to acquire.

where do you get magma, anyway?  the tooltip says in a tower, but all I've seen there is moonstone and memory crystals.  Do I need to be a certain level?

« on: September 30, 2011, 01:48:52 AM »
There are certainly other playstyles - for example I often jump or melee enemies, but some I like to fireball to knock them out of the way - nonlethal, and costs MP, but less so than killing would.  If monsters are giving me a particular trouble (more common with skelebot dwarves and/or boss rooms) I take out the spawners.  If the spawners were too much weaker I'd be killing them all the time.

While neat, I think it was too counterintuitive to look for the way down up there.  I could say the same for some of the stairwell doors with needing to go down to the up stairs and up to the down stairs except that real buildings are like that sometimes.

Q: how do you use Shrink?  I shrunk some flags, water tanks, plants, etc.  the resulting items didn't reexpand when I tried to redecorate the settlement, except the flags.

Is it known how long the discount is for?
and what happens if I buy multiple copies at once from the store?

until AVVW is on Steam and/or more fleshed out and/or multiplayer I'd probably want to refrain from introducing it to my friends.
