Works great, though its not exactly what you want when you mean "silence" ;p
The description seemed to suggest otherwise, but that'll teach me to not actually read the details before posting.  Oh well.

I saw a thread on another forum recently that discussed noice cancellation for the purpose of aiding sleep, but I'd assume this is roughly comparable.  They recommended a device like the one Chris described above for standalone active noise cancellation and recommended this particular one:

While I can't vouch for its effectiveness, multiple people did believe it was helpful at negating sound from elsewhere in the house and creating a quiet environment.  While designed to aid sleep, for your purposes I think it would stand a chance of being effective.  The price is also rather reasonable, all told.

EDIT: Looks like this one has a larger pool of reviews and offers a little more functionality.

Take your time and release when it is ready, im sure it will be worth the wait :)
I see no problem with doing this and taking my money now.

Make it so.

I don't have much time with it so far, but I enjoyed the hour or so I spent with it last night.  It's something of a lite (meaning 'less meticulously detailed than usual', not lacking in content) roguelike with a fantastic sense of geek humor.  My first character got slaughtered in the first 30 seconds, but my next character has almost fully explored the first floor and has leveled up considerably, along with finding a decent amount of loot.  I'll be logging more time with it tonight, for sure.

Were you playing with Beat Hazard Ultra?  I admittedly enjoyed the base game quite a bit, but the vastly increased variety that Ultra brings to the table is a shot of adrenaline into the arm of the game.  Plenty of enemy types and a fleshed out perk system to provide different experiences really helps to change things up.

You're totally correct on the controls, though.  I'm blessed with a wireless 360 controller and a PC adapter, so that's all that I use when I play the game.  Mouse and keyboard, while reminiscent of a number of arcade shooters on the PC, doesn't quite work in this game.

Lastly, I've been playing too many Audiosurf/Beat Hazard/1...2...3... Kick it! style games lately to comment in any coherent way on the effective use of music.  I started typing up something only to realize I was confusing Beat Hazard's stage generation with 1...2...3..., so I'll just let that one lie.

AI War / Re: Steam AI War Daily Deal: Everything 85% Off!

Congratulations, gentlemen.  You definitely deserve it for being so bold with your pricing.  I must confess that I was more than a little surprised at the huge dip, but there was a certain logic to it that shows in the results.

And I'll be the first to admit that Zelda 2 was the most frustrating game in the entire series.  One of the most frustrating I've ever played.  The combat was okay in parts but mostly was really fiddly, the difficulty was insane, the final dungeon was just absolutely crazy... *cut here because the point is made*

As soon as I saw a reference to Zelda II as an inspiration I knew I needed to scour the thread to find a post like this to put me at ease.  We're on the same page regarding this, and as long as the gameplay is more like a recent Castlevania or Metroid than Zelda II, I think I'll be able to live with it quite easily.

Still, this is rather surprising considering the options my mind had been coming up with.  My greatest reassurance in this entire thread is that Keith is not a fan of platformers but still likes it.  I can only hope that carries over to me.  We'll find out when you start taking preorders, I guess.

Good thing I've been keeping my expectations under control.  This will probably blow that restraint out of the water.

I've always been more of an admirer than active player of a lot of Vic's games.  Armageddon Empires is the only one I have a halfway decent grasp on, and I'd still by no means call myself "good".  Solium Infernum is one of those games I want to love but lack the materials and documentation I'd need to really get into it.

That didn't stop me from putting my money down for SGS, though.  Anything that keeps him making games is fine in my book.

AI War / Re: How many of you play "Ironman"

I don't save-scum...I play super-prudently instead  ;)
Hmm, I'll have to add "Not gunna do it, wouldn't be prudent." to the AI taunts list for when it chooses to not send some big swarm through a wormhole until the odds get better ;)
The thought of a wave countdown timer stalling out at 0:00 or going negative is a little unnerving.

AI War / Re: Procedurally generated games are the best

But the traitorous aspect is awesome. It's like playing Arkham Horror on the winning team.
And you (most of the time) don't even know what team you're actually going to be on for half the game.  Which is awesome.

I logged a bunch of time with it on release but the friend I was playing my coop campaign with has all but abandoned the game (though I suspect it's because he got steamrolled by a clever AI move and lost 90% of his army and his 5-star general son).  The multiplayer turned me off to it very quickly due to how horrendously imbalanced it can be and how random a lot of the character development is (veteran units, availability of unlocks).  Once I got katana samurai and naginata samurai together, I went from having lost every single round to winning every round from that point on and lost interest quickly.

I currently am about half done with a single player campaign as the Shimazu, but now that I own the entirety of Kyushu (southernmost island, westernmost on the game map) and dominate global trade I can see the game turning into a slog.  I'll probably get back to it sometime soon.

Great game, though.  I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of it even now.

Well, there's always give and take with anything, good and bad parts to every idea.  We've just been working on refining things to what should lead to the most internally-consistent world that supports all the mechanics that we want without going crazy on the scope, etc.  Should be good. :)
I don't necessarily disagree.  My misgivings are extremely minor and grounded in a very limited sentimentality for the image I once held.  Don't pay them any serious heed as if you went through the trouble to change it then you're clearly seeing something that an outsider like myself cannot, and my faith in your decisions is absolute.

Oh, and if you like lightning spells, you ain't seen nothing yet. ;)  The ball lightning is basically a re-skin of the fireball spell with some slight other differences, but I have much more distinctive kinds of lightning planned.  Expect an unusual variety of spells. :)
This pleases me more than you can possibly imagine.  Throw some ice in as well and I'm set for life.

I'd always liked the original story idea aside from the fact that the game had magic.  That would have been something of a jarring disconnect that I'd have been able to set aside but would constantly notice while I played.  Environ seems to tie that up rather nicely, although I'll miss the fact that it's not our world in the game.  Oh well.

I'm also an ardent supporter of lightning spells, so Ball Lightning is already on my list of must-have spells for whenever I finally get my grubby hands on the game.  Looking forward to it.
