They do actually, if they want to sell to consoles and get the most amount of eyes on their games. People still go to retail to buy videogames for a variety of reasons. One practical reason is that their Internet sucks and downloading a game takes a century. one day though...hopefully they drop retailers
To be quite fair though, with my 24/5 line, it takes less time to download a game than to drive to the closest retail store and buy it :P. This is a combination of proper Internet infrastructure and having about 60km to the nearest such store :P

You also live in Sweden. The US Internet infrastructure is a mess, no thanks to how big this country is and how much rural area there is.

Well, that and the fact that it's old. Having the internet first was nice when it was new, but now it's causing problems.

I give up :P

Heh, the real reason for that has to do with the fact that the brick and mortar retail stores still exhibit significant control over the media market, and in the US, the retailers want releases on Tuesday, because that's normally the lowest volume day of the week. So they want to bring folks in with the new releases. But, in Europe, retailers want releases on Thursdays (I'm not sure of their reasoning for that, I think it's to allow them to stock shelves just before the weekend without having to do even MORE work on Fridays, but I'm not sure). So, the big retailers force the publishers into not releasing the big AAA games on any other days. Obviously, this was less of an issue before digital distribution, and I suspect as digital distribution becomes more and more common, the publishers will begin to realize that they don't need the giant retailers anymore, and they'll stop this nonsense.

Electrons can only swim so fast, man, and it gets cold up there!.
...That doesn't explain why spaniards don't get it either. They have mideterrainian(holy crap spelling?) weather!
Yes, they get there faster, but never seem to properly expect the spanish inquisition, so there are further delays.

Keith, you owe me a new keyboard! :)

Sure thing!

Yep, managed to find some. Thanks again for the info.

One thing is that they seem to be very rare, to date I've never found them inside and running through a full set of surface areas in a particular region will only yield one or two. Any way to come across them more readily or do I just need to keep chipping away?

Need to keep chipping away. But, you can stop going inside to find them. They aren't supposed to be inside, as they just get stuck in most rooms.

Seconded on Pandemic. If you want to see it being played, you can do that here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytK1zDPPDhw&feature=g-user-u .

I believe that they are in the abandoned towns. They kinda look like big tanks.

We're here. :) As has been suggested, we're all just working really hard on the game. Chris and Keith have been coding like fiends on it, I've been making slices. Next week I think is when I'll start integrating some of the new art, so, it's coming along.

I don't think we'll have much new to show folks until we get a lot closer to beta, things are in a real state of flux right now, but fear not, all is well in the Arcen virtual office! :)

AVWW Technical Support / Re: Trapped in a bugged room
« on: October 06, 2012, 05:30:04 AM »
I have had two characters run into the same problem. Both times it happened while exploring a regular windmill building. Tried forcing a regen but it ended up back in the room again.

Both are still stuck, but the world is 18 continents large so uploading might be more difficult.

Is there a workaround to free the characters?

There's no workaround that I'm aware of. Hmm would you mind zipping the world file and tell me how big the resulting zip is? Maybe you could e-mail it to me?

I am also very content with AVWW1. I am just wondering if there will be an official soon/ever for those people who don't do the beta updates.

My guess would be yes, eventually. But, I've not actually discussed that with Chris.

401
Yeah, I don't see us releasing the source code. Especially since we're using more of it than you might think for AVWW2. Modding might be a possibility at some point, but, it's not too likely, and if it does happen, it won't be any time soon. We've got a lot going on around here right now. :)

AI War / Re: AI War: Ancient Shadows OST (Preview & Info)

For those of you who were into the Rock/Electric Guitar tracks of the original game, here's a new one from the new expansion.

Look out for the entire soundtrack to be complete and on sale next week!

Cool track.  :D

My only complaint is Soundcloud hides the @!#!#!!!!!#$@#$@#!$@#!!!! volume controller on me.  Nearly blew out my desktop speakers.   >:(

That track is best listened to at that volume, so that's ok :)

When he first shared that with us internally, I'm sure my downstairs neighbor heard it too. :)

We're really trying to avoid jumping and timing puzzles, as a rule. The focus of the game should be on the combat, not on the platforming.

As for the control scheme, give it a try before you completely dismiss it, you might be surprised. :)

I doubt I am the only one who wonders this: Will you be releasing some sort of mapmaking program for slices? And if so, how soon?

It's basically just an update of the previous room editor. My guess is that we'll release it with the first beta.
