A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / Some way of dropping equipment?
« on: February 02, 2013, 01:41:41 PM »
Just a minor complaint, and it may be just because I missed something, but this game needs some way of dropping equipment.  I'm currently stuck because I misjudged the amount of jump power some boots of leaden deadliness would take away, and now I'm stuck at the bottom of the hole I found them in.  every time I jump I'm about two pixels away from landing at the top of a platform, but as it is I'm stuck.

Is there a 'drop equipment' key, or something?

Game Development / Has anyone here played The Void?
« on: October 18, 2012, 12:12:44 AM »
Hey Arcen...ers,

So, I saw this game on Steam, http://store.steampowered.com/app/37000/ , and I thought it looked interesting.  I Googled it, and it's looking even more interesting the more I read about it.  So, from the looks of things it's basically a Demons-Souls-Hard adventure-painting-resource management-surrealist-arthouse-metaphor game, that involves a really neat art style.  Lots of people have been saying that it's one of the most unique games out there, and Rock Paper Shotgun says it's the most important game you are GOING TO ****ING PLAY. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/09/29/wot-i-think-the-void/

So, color me "I'm probably getting this as soon as I have spare time and money", but out of interest and a little bit of apprehension over the apparent difficulty of this game I'd like to ask: has anyone on these here forums ever played this game?

(Mod edit: obscured NSFW bit from the RPS quote)

Off Topic / Overwatch: a FPS/RTS mod for HL2 - anyone play?
« on: June 05, 2012, 05:35:45 PM »
Anyone else play this?

I know Coppermantis does, he designed a map for it.

If you don't know what this game is, basically you have a team of Rebels who are trying to complete all the objectives on a map, while one player, the Overwatch commander, controls the map.  Depending on the map, he can spawn in Overwatch troopers, manhacks, snipers, set off traps, and in one map he can summon a Strider.

It just got a big update from the dev team, and there's a small but dedicated community.  It also has kickass music!

It's a really good example of an RTS/FPS hybrid done right, at least on the older, more developed maps.  If you do play, which map is your favorite?  I like Citadel, but I have to say that Outbreak is pretty good for a newly-released map.

Those of you who've bought anything from GOG know what I'm talking about.

Those who have no idea what I'm talking about, Good Old Games is a website that buys the rights to distribute old games, like Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Fallout, Freespace 2, Empire Earth, Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, Master of Orion, Myst, Duke Nukem, Unreal, and others, and then tweaks them to work on Vista and XP, and then sells them at bargain prices, with zero DLC and often some extra goodies, such as original manuals and soundtracks.  Many of these games are one-of-a-kind, and they have three games that Yahtzee didn't have much to criticize about (Psychonauts, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Painkiller).

Until recently, the only good new games they were selling were The Witcher and The Witcher 2, because GOG is an offshoot of CD Projekt RED, but now they've begun offering indie titles.  What better way to support Arcen than to get their games onto GOG's catalogue?  I've put both AI War and Tidalis on the community wishlist, so if you've got a GOG account go and show your support for those wishes!  If any group of gamers knows that looks do not equal gameplay, it's the GOGers!

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / Quick question RE starting Light spells
« on: February 09, 2012, 01:40:28 PM »
Hey,

Just a quick question for the devs, if they've got the time: why was energy burst chosen as the starting Light element ranged spell as opposed to the Plasma whatchamacallit?

Off Topic / Celestial Sandbox RP needs more RPer's!
« on: January 31, 2012, 01:26:46 PM »
Like to roleplay but bored of following canon?  Wish you could use that character that doesn't quite fit in the setting set by whatever franchise your forum adheres by?  Be bored no more!  Join the Celestial Sandbox RP today!
... ::)
But no, seriously, there's only about four people there at the moment, including me :-[.  This forum has a huge amount of potential, we just need some more participants.  If coming up with unique settings and characters and seeing what happens when they collide with other (completely different) settings and characters sounds like your thing, give us a look.

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / How are the Eagles?
« on: October 27, 2011, 07:32:48 PM »
How do you guys all feel about the eagle type enemies?

Personally, I don't like them much.  Their attack sound is annoying, their animation is frankly crappy, especially compared to the crippled dragon, and they really just don't make much sense.  I know this is just a game, but nests that shoot out constant streams of annoying birds that fly in a straight line?  I don't know, but for me they tend to be either annoying or just plain frustrating. :(

But enough negativity  :P , thoughts anyone?

A Valley Without Wind 1 & 2 / Throw rock is overpowered?
« on: October 20, 2011, 09:19:09 PM »
I don't know about everyone else, but I use the throw rock spell for pretty much all of my mook-slaying needs.  It has a big collision box, and it does a ton of damage for a negligible cost.  Yes, it has a short range, but I rarely come across enemies that I can't just rush at and smash flat with a giant boulder.

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions?

AI War / What to do with the Bomber Starship?
« on: November 04, 2010, 12:07:11 AM »
The title is pretty self-explanatory. :P
Essentially, the Bomber Starships are currently just a fast, short-ranged version of the siege starship.
Any suggestions?
A new purpose?
Complete removal?

AI War / Forcefield glitch?
« on: October 21, 2010, 06:55:53 PM »
Hi,
I was recently playing the recent beta (3.900, I think), and I discovered that some units under AI forcefields for some reason don't have the little forcefield circle on them.  Is this a glitch or am I missing something?
