I tried looking at some of the gameplay videos. It looks like people are playing in a very zoomed out overhead where you don't get to see any action. Is that normal?

Tips to burn money:

1) multiple space docks should constantly be building while you take a planet
2) mercenaries
3) warhead stockpile
4) beachheads
5) Zenith trader toys
6) fortresses

If you have maximum resources, you're doing it wrong. The only time that should happen is as a buffer to quickly rebuild after launching an attack on a difficult planet.

Sounds reclamation itself should be looked at. Of course that is its own can of worms.
I'm basically fine leaving it where it is unless reclamation cheese gets much more prevalent.

It's been around the block before.  It used to be brutally overpoweringly... well, OP.  Then it was nerfed in various ways, and eventually nerfed into the ground.  But that's not much fun, so eventually it was brought back up with the nanite-hopping mechanic and a few other things.

I'd rather it be fun and exploitable than just not fun, though mitigating the exploits would of course be nice.

This. Reclamation is fun.

We could take it to off-topic, chemical. And I disagree about not trying to cause... annihilation. In my play testing, I'm actually trying to ride the edge of not losing but beating the pus out of the other side to get a high score.
Score? What score? Scores where cut a few revisions ago ;)

Destroy, eliminate, annihilate, that's fine. Even evict. The term "genocide" is hard to get in a gaming mood over when it involves racial overtones. For example, we have modern day refugees in my hometown that are genuine victims of genocide- the elimination of their ethnicity- that are still recovering from the savagery against their women, children, confiscation of their property, and so on. Genocide means so much more than just killing people; it's to completely annihilate a race, to stop breeding, torture, and the loss of human rights.

I don't think that's what we're doing here over a game like this. I sure wouldn't play it if it was doing any of these things.

No, it's not in the same league. It does have cultural meaning.
