I enjoyed the first game, but the lack of proper support beyond on-board artillery and a few helicopters was super disappointing, but they seem to be fixing that this time around, so I've been keeping an eye on it.

I actually pre-ordered it
*insert long tirade about why you should never pre-order anything*

I never do pre-order games, but after watching two separate multi-hour streams of the game being played, I was pretty confident that it would work and be something I'd enjoy, and I was right.

I've got about an hour to kill.  Add me and let's go rob something!

Been kinda busy this week and will be next week, but we definitely should get some AI War people together to steal all the things.

I actually pre-ordered it and have been playing it a good bit since then. I really enjoy it, though its true that it's really a multiplayer game. You can do co-op with the missions and challenge modes as well as battles with other players. It's a lot like Frozen Synape and Hero Academy in that regard. It's asynchronous and you can set the turn times up to 7 days, so really as long as you've got a few friends who are into it, you'll get a lot of mileage out of it.

Also, as far as bugs go, the only one I've seen so far is the ship parts list sometimes won't display the first entry in each list until you click the scroll arrow. Certainly no game breaking bugs or unplayable issues other than the servers being slow for online play.

I actually just came here to ask the same question :P I've got it, and I've played online with a few friends. It's super fun.

Which is funny, because I do recall total post count being hidden at one point.

They're boxes on mine since I'm using the old layout, but yeah. Basically, the more posts you make, the higher rank you are, and the boxes (Stars) represent rank, to a degree.

To provide an example, here's a mostly whole mission I recorded from last weekend:
Good grief.  That was enlightening about what ARMA is, at least.  Brings new meaning to "situational awareness" for me.  Specifically, not having it.  The only time it broke that (that I could see) was right at the end when it says "Mission Succesful".  I guess for ultimate realism it could just not tell you and the message has to be passed manually by the survivors ;)

The SWAT series was one of my favorites (Even if they were kind of silly about weapons). Also a big fan of ARMA and the old tactical Tom Clancy games, before they became modern style shooters.

Yea, for a game in this genre that's actually a pretty good release state.  I keep wondering why that kind of failure (more mild in the case of something like this or Endless Space) is so pervasive in this one thing.  Though maybe it's not just this one thing and it's just that I happen to actually pay attention to 4x-space releases.

Probably because 4X games are massive, and the developer is probably taking a "I can release it in a 'good enough' state for sales, and continue working on it because it'll never be 'done' anyway" kind of approach.

It's just like many people in our society who think that teen sex, STDs, and pregnancy result from proper contraceptive sex education (as opposed to abstinence-only education). Yet places all over Europe are much more open about sex, and have better educational programs, and it results in many less pregnancies and STDs. I guess the argument in America is that by teaching kids how to properly have sex using protection, you are somehow promoting it. It's just as silly as the idea that creating a violent video game is the same as influencing someone to go kill people.

Oh my god, somebody gets it! Reminds me of the argument TB made after the Newtown shootings, how in Korea, Starcraft is literally a televised sport and they've never had a school shooting (At least not a big one)

I'm not against what Sega is trying to do with the Company of Heroes 2 theme/story. What I'm against is my perception of WHY they're trying to do it. It doesn't seem very genuine to me, it seems like a dishonest marketing ploy.

As I've mentioned in other threads, I'm big into table top gaming. I also play a lot of old hex and counter wargames, and you should read the descriptions on the back of these boxes. The box for Breakout: Normandy makes the invasion seem to poetic and glorious, which is pretty much the exact opposite reaction of the people I knew that were actually fighting there had. At least with CoH they're trying to make it look like it was a rough time.

It's better for performance after all.

Not if you are running off a USB on wildly different hardware all the time. ;)

Almost everything I own that can have Linux on it does :)

You should do a review on AI War, Windows versus Linux.

I had it running on Wine for a good while. It took longer to load and had some weird bugs with it, but that was the pre-unity version.

AI War / Re: Steam keys for Ancient Shadows

but for a certain kind of person who just has to see all their games show up in Steam, you've taken steps to satisfy them. That's just a good idea.

I prefer having them on there so I don't have to track down a download and CD key in my email every time I need it (Which happens surprisingly often) so it's good to have. Already got mine though :)

Spec Ops: The Line.  I won't spoil it, but it is an interesting game that has relevance to that theme.

Indeed. I even read the book about it.
