Odd, are you running a free install (bought via the webpage) or via a download service (Steam, Gamersgate etc)?
 
If so try verifying the local files. If that doesn't help, try reinstalling. It seems there could be textures missing, because as far as I know, not much has changed in the way the game displays textures between those versions.

FYI, last night I asked some of you if you'd be interested in participating in a private alpha of the next AIW expansion (Vengeance of the Machine) and today I've sent out instructions to those who responded positively (there are those who lack sufficient quantities of this substance known as "time"; I'll take your word for it; I've never had any).

Yeah, "time" isn't exactly my friend at the moment. :/ I've stayed out of all the alphas and betas since AVWW1 because my life's been a mess. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel now though. I just hope it isn't a train.

Funny, it didn't work when it was alive either. Odd. Oh well, at least I know now why it's not working. But it's odd that it didn't take the hack even with the CS alive.

So I have the Ship Design Hacker on the planet, I have supply...but for some reason it appears I can't hack this ARS. What am I missing?

If Android could reach a maturity level where there are a smaller number of aspect ratios, a consistent baseline of strong minimum hardware specs, and a consumer base that actually demonstrates a strong interest in buying apps... then yeah, I'm all for it.  I think it's a cool platform and I want to see it succeed.  But right now... yeah, that's just the sort of morass I can't see dragging myself into from a developer standpoint.

It will never reach that "maturity" level, since it goes against what Android actually is. Freedom to choose what device/power/budget you need.

I don't think Steam can ban you from playing the games you own.  They can ban you from the forums, but can they really ban your account so completely that you cannot play your own games?

I think they can shut down your account completely, but they do it for things like fraudulent transactions and such. You pretty much have to deserve it.

In difference from Origin, that banned players completely for quoting a guy, spouting profanities, telling him to stop. I loved that one. "You told someone off on the forums, and in doing so, you quoted profanities, therefor you may no longer play the games you have bought."

Logic!
