I somehow missed the first post. I am a terrible person, apologies.

Yeah, King, we've only discussed that for the last page and half. /bonk READ!
I think EA lives in their own world at this point.I think they're capable of intense stupidity, but I don't think they're literally stupid in general. Their business wouldn't last long otherwise.
But maybe this really is just intense hubris.
Yeah. If this is true, I can't believe EA lied to so many people to pull off this deception. Its one thing to be an obstinate blockhead. Its another to lie to everyone like this and repeatedly do so. I'm going to be watching this very closely. It just baffles me that they thought they would get away with it. I mean, there are some very skilled hackers out there, that would love the challenge of "cracking" the game. It wouldn't take them too long to realize that "cracking" it away from server-dependency (for a limited single-player experience, not the region stuff) was suspiciously easy.
It makes me wonder if EA/Maxis somehow figured this deception was a good idea despite (or because of?) the near-certainty of its discovery?
This could make my head hurt, better get back to something simple like programming
Quote from: BillickIt's kind of a shame, since it sounds like Maxis actually made a pretty good game, but the suits at EA forced them to shoehorn in a multiplayer mode that nobody wanted as a lame excuse to require being connected to their servers. I used to like EA, but they seem to get worse and worse every year as they find they can get away with more. Maybe this will be a wake up call for them. This is actually false. A person on Twitter made the same statement, blaming EA for the decision and someone at Maxis replied and stated that the decision to go full, always online multiplayer was Maxis decision and Maxis alone. EA had nothing to do with it.
Imagine my surprise.
... and I saw Tetris on iOS put in a subscription service with microtransactions.
Tetris?!!?!??!! *boggle* How do you have microtransactions with Tetris?
I'm actually not horribly against microtransactions in a single player game as long as it doesn't define how the game and levels are designed. If there are only four rockets, or if the fifth rocket can only be found in a Painkiller-like way then it's gone too far. However, if it's a case of, "I screwed up, and I need to either be better or spend real money" then I don't really care. As long as I can follow the "I screwed up" logic and restart the amount that I have to in order to continue enjoying the game to just do better and get beyond the part where I need the rockets.
The thing is, in that case, it's avoidable. In the case of Diablo 3 and SimCity 5's DRM, it is completely unavoidable without emulating the server illegally. In the case of Diablo 3's microtransactions, it is largely impossible to get personal item upgrades or any reasonable amount of gold without spending real money to buy it from others... although that isn't really the fault of the RMAH itself, rather the fact that they had to reduce the likelihood of any kind of decent item so the auction houses wouldn't ruin the game. Have to say, they kinda did anyway.
At long last, I finally post my first videogame review of 2013. Its an interesting sidescrolling game with a mix of strategy and platforming genres: A Valley Without Wind 2...Weird, looks like the devs are insane...
*Facepalm*. Silly me to expect people committing a crime to at least steal from the people who deserve itBut like, if you're going to steal, STEAL FROM THE MAN!
They are equal-opportunity scammers. Doesn't matter if your "the man" or not. All they want is money.
But like, if you're going to steal, STEAL FROM THE MAN!
