Summary0010626: Tier 3 Spell Balance report part 1
DescriptionGonna try and keep this one a bit shorter for ease of writing and reading.

Classes tested: (Crag)peller, (Plum)icler, (Lava)lock, (Floet)urge, (Scint)illist

Primaries

Crag primary is a fast firing ricochet shot. Decent power and rebound. Good.
Plum primary is a rising shot. A little bit nuanced to use, but pretty useful.
Lavalock primary is a triple shot. Really cool looking. Not overpowered as each individual shot does a third of a typical primary. Must be tactically
useful.
Floet primary is illumination shot -- minus the illumination effect.
Scint primary is one those bendy shots with a lower projectile speed. Higher damage compensates, though.

Usability scores

Crag : B
Plum : B
Lava : B
Floet: C (B when illumination fixed)
Scint: B

These seem fine apart from the lack of illumination on the Floet attack.

Secondaries

Crag secondary is one of those semi-controllable lance attacks. Seems OK, but tricky to use.
Plum secondary is a snake shot. Always useful.
Lava secondary is a fairly strong touch attack. With new melee monsters becomes useful. Lower caliber than I would expect though.
Floet secondary is a another touch attack. Seems broken. The spell always fires just under your legs. Can't be directed in any way. Useless as is.
Scint secondary is a whip attack. To become a melee attack in the next patch, so useful.

Usability Scores

Crag : C
Plum : B
Lava : C (just falls to a C due to slightly less caliber than I would expect)
Floet: E (broken)
Scint: B

Lance attacks are tricky to use, probably useful when mastered, though. A caliber boost might help, though. The Lava punch attack seems to be lacking in
caliber a little. Makes it less reliable defensively. Floet punch attack is clearly broken.

Specials

Crag special is a trajectory throw attack. Seems handy.
Plum special is an AOE attack. Useful.
Lava special is similar to the Crag special. Slightly less power, but slightly more caliber. Seems a decent differentiation.
Floet special is identical to the Plum one.
Scint special is a mine attack. Does insane damage (25 000) on the regen tree. On enemies the damage seems capped, though.

Usability Scores

Crag : B
Plum : B
Lava : B
Floet: B
Scint: B (would be massively OP if the regen tree damage results were correct)

Scint mine attack might need a little testing to see why insane damage levels are recorded on the regen tree. If this can also occur on enemies it might
prove OP in certain situations.

Ammo attacks

Crag ammo attack is a typical Forg-esque AOE blast. A little pricey at 12 cost, but useful. Noticed something weird though, if you use it while facing or
running left the radius affect is crumpled and the spell just comes out like a horizontal floor blast. Running to the right is fine, though. Seems like a
bug.
Plum ammo attack is similar to the Litt version and despite only costing 2 per attack, seems good rather than OP. Low caliber, lowish power for an ammo
attack. Litt version seemed much more OP for Tier 2, might need to revisit that spell.
Lava ammo attack is a wrecking ball type. Once you get the hang of them, pretty useful.
Floet ammo attack is cross shaped AOE attack. Lowish cost of 5 makes this decent.
Scint ammo attack is multi homing shot costing 10. Seems a bit weak for the 10 cost.

Usability scores

Crag : C (facing left bug needs fixing)
Plum : B (nearly A due to low cost)
Lava : B
Floet: B (low cost helps this make B)
Scint: C (doesn't seem that useful for the cost)

The running left weirdness needs fixing on the Crag ammo attack.

Plum could possibly do with a slight ammo cost increase to 3. Scint ammo attack could do
with a cost decrease to 5 or 7 I think.

Overall Class Scores

Crag : 14
Plum : 16
Lava : 15
Floet: 12
Scint: 15

The balance doesn't seem to be too bad. Lance attacks could maybe do with a slight buff to compensate for their quirkiness and difficulty to use. Crag ammo attack facing left bug needs looking into.

Plumicler seems like the most powerful Tier 3 class, nearly scoring an A. Maybe a tiny increase in the cost of the ammo attack to 3 would be in order.

Lava seems like a solid class all around, only let down by a slightly lower than expected caliber on its punch attack.

Floet illumination attack needs the illumination and its broken punch attack fixing. Should be decent then.

Scint also seems fine as long as the insane damage on the regen tree from mines is not indicative of any problems. Ammo attack also seems a tad expensive to me.

Not sure if I'll be able to a part 2. Requires somehow unlocking the correct spells. Probably onto Tier 4 next.

I found the blast spells (lavalock's primary, as well as a few other classes) to be overpowered. Especially once you start building up concentration, the damage/caliber can get up there along with the ease of hitting.

My own preference on those spells is if they used the shotgun principle. Slow but powerful blasts that require proper timing, but are easy to hit for goodly effect.

Crag ammo attack facing left weirdness seems to be fixed now for some reason...

I wouldn't mind those triple shot attacks becoming more like a slow firing harder hitting shotgun type, if only to differentiate them from a typical primary some more.

Thanks again for this.

Two notes:

I didn't see any of the bugs you were referring to, except the illumination ones. If you are still seeing any of the others, please let me know.

I disagree about the Scint's ammo shot. It hits pretty hard and is REALLY easy to hit with, so I think I'm going to leave it alone for now.
