Summary0014558: Solar Map: The Game Should Allow At Least A Subset Of The Usual Actions To Break Races Out Of Hostile Alliances
DescriptionTaken from the forums: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,15378.0.html

In my current game the Union Of Independent States formed.
If I see this right, all of the usual ways to bring a race into the federation no longer work with members of the UIS (i.e. bring them in using the Skylaxians, pressure the Burlusts, etc.), right?

All the respective deals say "this race is already in an alliance implacably opposed to the federation".

Just to make sure I really have to purge all these guys form the solar system ;D...

If you hover over the UIS (or any other hostile alliance) icon on the solar map, it gives you the details of what you have to do to force dissolution. With most of them it is when only a single member is left it dissolves. So pick who you want to live, and kill the other (presumably) two in the UIS. :)

Forgive my bluntness, but doesn't this make the various hostile alliances fairly samey - both in terms of coping with them as well as their overall effect?

I would have actually fairly liked to be able to e.g. bully the burlusts out of the UIS, or make one of the races like the skylaxians enough to switch alliances :-\...

I could see that the hostile alliances make such strategies harder - but altogether denying (all) of them seems like artificially limiting the depth that the game usually has to offer.

Or am I missing something crucial here?

Based on the forum thread there seems to be some amount of support for this request.

I like the idea of making such strategies more difficult; and maybe certain races in certain federations cannot be extracted with any such federation (in alignment with the race's story), but I agree it'd be nice to have another option.

Seconding the notion. Just let an observer game play out, in which formed an axis alliance which seems to be triggered by any two independent races gaining 2 planets each. Any other races attempting to fight back immediately were pulled in the second they took a planet, as they then also had 2 planets. Maybe for "strength" style alliances, members could be expelled if they become weak?

Some ideas:

-Allow the UIS and SAP to be absorbed wholesale into the Federation, with enough influence and credit.

-SAP kicks out members who drop to one planet remaining. Fear Empire also dissolves if down to one planet (not so fearsome now eh?)

-UIS members remain open to switching over to the Federation, with more stringent requirements.
