Summary0003758: Ship production list runs out of space after 16 bonus ships.
DescriptionSteps to reproduce:
Begin a 16-planet-start game.
Capture an ARS.
(Alternately, start a defender mode campaign with 17 or more bonus types)

I thought you were limited to 8 starting planets.

@Ranakastrasz It used to be 8, but that number has been increased in some recent version (don't remember which one). Not what I would recommend doing, though, as the AI gets extremely brutal when there are 16 player homes.

that is almost a game breaker :/, means you cant produce a ship!!
Granted starting a game with 16 planets seems a wee bit excessive, the size of those waves must be ginormous.

Never encountered this bug because when I started with 16 homeworlds, my PC crashed when the AI sent its 2nd attack force of 6K against my >9K metric f***tons of units.

Yeah, I don't think it was ever intended that anyone would play that many starts, but the option is there, and it's fun if you have the computer for it.

Perhaps the developers should limit the maximum number of ship types granted to the player(s) until they are willing to tackle the ogre of game balance with the use of computer crippling amounts of units. (My games, on a cheap 2 year old laptop are already lingering)

At that, perhaps also limiting the number of home planets.

If I remember the discussion correctly, the increase in the number of starting planets displayed was done to give a wider choice in terms of ship types you could pick so if you were looking for a specific ship you could find it easier.

I'm not sure any balancing was done in regards to the the fact this would allow games with a crazy number of homeworlds.
