Summary0007483: Graphical variances between different spell ranks
Description  Spells look good when you get them, but once they're at Rank 5 all they have is their increased damage (which is substantial on many spells). Spells at higher ranks could use some mild variance to give them a little more personality. Energy Orb, for example, could get some red/blue edge tinting (y'know... like when you look at a sheet of white paper) or Fireball could get a larger prominence. Rock Throw especially could look like different kinds of rocks.

For even just as a placeholder for custom texture packs to do the same.

I know this has come up before. I agree with you that it would make upgrading your spells "cooler."

Chris has already given an pretty absolute "no" on this issue when it has come up. You can see his response here:

I understand his hesitance. Creating 5x the amount of particle effects would increase the memory footprint and development time of each spell.

I do like eRe4s3r's idea of adding in the rank as an option in the particles.xml file, even if it isn't used in the main.

Well, I didn't mean more particles exactly. Think the Castlevania games on the DS where higher ranks simply get more elaborate for the same effect.

But if it's already been commented on in the forums then that's good enough for me.

What we will have, though, is lots of more powerful spell options in general rather than just higher-tier versions of the same thing.
