| Summary | 0007624: Inventory Zones, a way to help sort your enchantment/inventory dialogs | ||||||||||
| Description | Hey, everybody - here to suggest player-defined, optional, dynamic "zones" to help sort your inventory so you know where to look for what. (This idea initially started as one for specifically the enchant dialog, but I personally think this could also be extended to the inventory.) Imagine you've got at least 30 enchants. You're looking for an enchant you've just received, but you've got almost no idea where it could be! With this concept (check the attached file), every newly grabbed enchant/item is placed in its according "zone," with a small "New!" graphic attached. Items may be freely moved to and from the zones, but they cannot be initially placed outside of its designated zone. Grey zones disallow any items from appearing in them, so it works as an "important items" section. The general look of the interface would be improved with this. As well, there would be less time spent sorting your inventory, and more playing the game. | ||||||||||

It's certainly an improvement on what we currently have, but I think it's too rigid of a system. It's better to change the color of the enchant outline based on enchant type as well as writing "New!" somewhere over newly acquired enchants. Currently the newest enchants go into the bottom left corner. Keep the whole row clear to easily identify them. |

I actually was meaning to suggest the "New!" highlight. I'll edit for that. I understand that new items are spawned in the bottom-leftmost space, but it may be more convenient to not have to move every single item to keep organization. It's a simple task, which would be relatively easy to automate. The type of the enchant is based on the image in the center, isn't it? It wouldn't be very useful to change the outline color based on that as well. |

If you keep an enchant in your bottom right corner you won't have to shift anything. As for outline colors, different colored outlines would group enchants by slot type. |

No, r1, he meant the slot the enchant goes into, just like you've done! I made a suggestion pretty much just like this a while ago (0007176 if you're interested), so I like the idea! I would like it even more if the equipped enchant for a slot was above it's column(s). So, just center the equipment slots between two columns, then dedicate each column to one type of enchant, just like you've got. It would make it look just a smidgeon clearer as to which rows are for which types of enchants. Two downsides though: you'd be limited to only 20 enchants of a single slot due to the way inventory works (only 10 high), and it would make this inventory look different, stylistically, than the main inventory. That isn't neccessarily a bad thing though, but it could look out of place. |

I've actually based the colors of the outlines (aside from the grey) on the auras that shine around the corresponding body parts in the Opal Guardian's shop, to make it a little more consistent. I understand your concept, but that would, as you said, restrict the amount of enchants per body type you could have. That's why I've suggested dynamic zones to cater to the user's liking. Whoops. Didn't clarify that. Gonna edit. |
