Summary0007723: Light Snake spell upgrade - Fire Snake
DescriptionOnce Light Snake is learned as a prerequisite, Fire Snake comes in to play.

Just mix some rubies for heat, a plum or two for effervescence and some iron ingots for solidity and you get the Fire Snake.

It moves just like Light Snake, but it can damage enemies with fire at its location. Like the Light Snake, it lingers so damage might need to be decreased slightly to allow for enemies to "stand in the fire" without taking too much damage (similar to banking Creeping Doom along floors to gain multiple hits)

Throw multiple snakes out to have one caustic flooring arrangement.

Would be of limited utility against Espers since they float, but grounded enemies would feel the burn pretty quickly.

I like this idea, would they light the ground on fire as they move? Probably not.

When I first learned Light Snake, I tried to shoot it at enemies. With this, we'll get one that actually does something to them when you do that.

This seems like it should also damage background objects; it'd be a nice way to clear forests, for instance, so that would be cool.

I'm not so sure it should jump Elements though. Maybe call it Searing Snake and have it deal Light damage?

Clears forest? No way, please. I can easily imagine the dungeon map with numerous orange dots (cedars, you know).

For the spell itself... if you attack an enemy, even with the slightest damage, you will get an aggro on you. Damaging enemies in row is sometimes suicidal especially when you are in dangerous areas such as lava flats or the deep. I surely don't want to be raided by Utahraptor hordes.
Despite that, well, this "sometimes suicidal" makes this spell interesting, you must think before using this. If you are confident about dispatching enemies efficiently with your mighty Creeping Death 5 or something, use it. If you aren't, don't use it. Just like that.

I would prefer that it doesn't damage enemies, but instead flies straight until it hits something. The current Light Snake spell only goes along floors, so it's useless for scouting above you.

Nano: Perhaps a cross with Fire Flare, that instead of just lighting up an area reveals it too?

Kinda. Allow it to go in a straight line before hugging walls was what I meant. Fire snake currently drops like a rock, and that's fine for it, but it limits it to exploring sideways and downwards, but not upwards at all.

Also, Light Snake already reveals the area when lighting it up, so that'd be a given.
