Mounts a single Photon Bombardment Cannon, a form of beam weapon vastly different from that commonly used by either the Zenith or the Humans.
Each Spire Shipyard supports four of these frigates, and the Refugee Outpost supports an additional four.

How to use in your fleet
Spire Frigates are the basic units of the Spire Fleet, and each sport enough fire-power to eliminate fleet ships with ease, if aimed properly. The cannon is actually a damage over time weapon lasting several seconds, unlike the similar Zenith Beam Frigate. This aiming is also an inexact science: once a frigate fires its "laser", it is fixed at a certain angle to the firing ship instead of the first target.
Therefore, a good tactic is to establish a direction that the AI is coming from and then kite your Spire Fleet directly backwards. Parking your whole fleet in a sizeable battle can often result in arcs of AI-ships stopping at their respective maximum ranges (the cannon will punch through a point, and then waste the rest of its damage). Conversely, your Frigates won't be very useful doing drive-bys on stationary targets. There are many other ways to increase your mileage out of the Spire Fleet.
